Your Marriage Doesn't Have to be Boring

Throughout a marriage, the partners go through all different types of stages. There are times of passion and intense love when things could not be better. There are also times of frustration and dissatisfaction when things seem to be falling apart.

I once heard a woman complain that her husband was boring. She complained that he only wanted to sit around on the couch and watch television in his free time. When she asked him about going out on the weekends he always had rather stay at home. He spent his days working or doing yard work.

This happens in many cases. Her once vibrant outgoing husband had been taken over by something that we call life. When first married the couple went out every weekend. They hiked together and played tennis. He was interested in photography and she took up pottery. They felt young and alive. However now that feeling was gone.

They had three children and spent their days working and their nights caring for the kids. The hiking and hobbies had been replaced with mommy and daddy duties. The hip cool couple now seemed old, tired, and worn out.

The hard working days that he put in made sitting at home and doing nothing sound nice.

Every couple should expect some refocusing as their lives change and mature into a family. However there is no reason that life as a couple has to stop altogether. While the wife was busy wondering and complaining about her husband's lack of enthusiasm for their marriage, she was also not doing anything to contribute to them as a couple.

The couple needed to be recharged. They needed to set a day or night each weekend aside for them. They needed to talk about something more than the children and focus on themselves every now and then.

It may take some time and even be difficult to get started. However once you get started spending time on yourselves, you will realize what you have been missing out on.
