Worrying Too Much

I know I’m constantly railing against letting the often-inaccurate media have too much influence over our marriages and our approaches to romance. One of the reasons why I harp on about it so much is because I’m talking to myself as much, if not more, than I am to others. I’m a worrywart; it’s one of my least favorite facets of my personality but one I know I have to acknowledge and for which I have to watch out. There’s little that I can’t manage to fret over, and whether or not I’m going about my relationship with my husband … Continue reading

Much Ado About Nothing

As I mentioned before in my blog post, Tilling the Earth, our stakes were reorganized this past Sunday. Being very pregnant, I was planning on letting my husband attend the conference while I stayed home and kept my very swollen feet up, but I decided at the last minute to go. After all, it was going to be downtown at the tabernacle and Elder Ballard, one of the apostles was speaking. I never like to pass up an opportunity to hear, in person, an apostle of the Lord speak! So, I decided to go. I learned two things. First, that … Continue reading

Worrying During Pregnancy

There are certain symptoms of pregnancy that are simply classic. Morning sickness, sore breasts, frequent urination and fatigue are all hallmark indications that you are expecting. But there is another symptom of pregnancy that is equally common: worrying. Worry is one symptom you won’t get, however, until you already know you’re pregnant. Once it hits, it hits hard. For the remainder of your pregnancy you find yourself worrying about everything from how much weight you are gaining to how much the baby is moving. Surfing the internet can make a pregnant woman crazy with all the stories of diseases, birth … Continue reading

Can You Get Your Kids to Stop Worrying About What Others Think?

Peer pressure is brutal. As parents, we may have done everything we can think of to bolster our children against the realities of peer pressure only to be disappointed to find that our child is still succumbing to worrying about what everyone else is saying and doing. Is there anything we parents can do to get our child to NOT be so concerned with what other people think? I think I am asking the question of questions for parents; one that parents have been asking themselves for decades (if not centuries). There is something about the socialization of the human … Continue reading

Do Women Read Too Much Into Things?

Most books and therapists will state that women are much more concerned with emotional ties and bonds than men. It is more important for women to have an emotional connection with their mate than it is for men to have a special bond with their mate. One day a friend and I were talking and she expressed how she felt that her and her mate were not as connected as they once were. She felt that he was more distracted and that their bond had lessened. She had worried over the subject for a few days until she finally decided … Continue reading

Second Grade is Too Young to Become a Hairdresser

Warning: Rant follows. Aaargggh! There, I feel better now. Sort of. What is it, you ask? Well, the short answer is…my mother. I know that’s not terribly original. I don’t even have that much to complain about. My mother really loves my kids. And even though she sends me newspaper clippings on tragic accidents that can happen to children when their parents aren’t careful, I know (though my husband may not believe it) how many times she restrains herself. So what happened? I was the one who started out worrying this time. My mother is a retired teacher. She specialized … Continue reading

However, you need to be realistic. Only choose to do the items that you feel you are capable of without creating you much stress on your wedding day. If you plan to try to do the decorations for your wedding, I suggest only planning for things that … Continue reading

Ask a Baby Blogger: What Solids Should I Avoid?

Question: My baby seems to have a sensitive stomach. He seems to react to foods that even I eat. He is 4 months old and I want to start him on solids soon but I’m not sure which solid foods will make him constipated or irritate his stomach. Any advice? I think that as parents we spend most of our time with our babies feeding them. I can think of nothing else that takes up as much time as does feeding. Consequently we also spend the most time worrying and wondering about the how, what, when, etc. of starting solid … Continue reading
