Wives Judging Wives

Last night was the tournament night for my Thursday night volleyball team. (Distinguished as such because I’m also on teams Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday nights. I was not exaggerating when I told Tristi I have a crazy passion for volleyball.) At any rate, tournament nights are long. Instead of playing one match against one team which lasts 45 minutes, we play four or five teams one game each. That means we’re there for three to four hours. The nice thing about tournament nights is all the socializing we get to do, both with other teams as well as our own. … Continue reading

And Then There Was One–A “Desperate Housewives’” Star Engagement

I wonder how Teri Hatcher feels now? Today, the “Desperate Housewives’” star is now officially, the only single cast member on the hit ABC show. Know why? Because Eva Longoria has just gotten engaged to NBA star Tony Parker. According to PEOPLE magazine: “Eva and Tony are officially engaged.” And according to Longoria’s rep, “The couple has never been happier.” The happy couple confirmed the news themselves this morning on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS FM radio show. Parker told Seacrest’s radio listeners that he flew into Los Angeles last night after the Spurs’ game against the Utah Jazz and was waiting … Continue reading

Love That Lasts

Sometimes you just see love in the faces and actions of other married couples. Yesterday was such a day for me. Our choir went to sing for the elderly residents in a local nursing home. I looked out a saw one couple. She was nestled close to him and they were holding hands as they listened to us sing. As we sang The Anniversary Waltz she started to quietly sing along, all the time looking at her husband. You got the feeling it didn’t matter a bit that she was old and wrinkled and that he was old and wrinkled. … Continue reading

Confessions of a Stay-at-Home Wife

A couple of months ago I confessed that I was a stay-at-home wife and I explained how that had happened. I also admitted I was embarrassed about it, and laughed at an article that suggested stay-at-home wives were a new “trend.” Oh yeah, for a while there I was on a stay-at-home wife kick. I plan to revisit the issue briefly with some confessions about my life as a stay-at-home wife. As usual, comments are welcomed. I’ll be curious to hear what some of you have to say about this blog. Confession #1: Sometimes I Feel Guilty It’s not like … Continue reading

Do Aquarium Pets Beg?

This past Monday was the tournament for my Monday night volleyball league. Like I did during the tourney for my Thursday night league, I sat around talking to my teammates. And, like what happened then with that conversation leading to blog material (see “Wives Judging Wives”), Monday night’s conversation also provided blog material. (This time for the Pets Blog, though, instead of the Marriage Blog.) It all started once I told two girls on my team, Jennifer and Susan, what exactly it is I do during the day. Susan’s an ardent animal lover. She’s very involved with rescuing dogs. At … Continue reading

Musings on Singles, Labels, and a “Big” Wedding

As I noted in a comment response to Jade on my “Single Side of Things” article the other day, I finally had a chance to watch Sex and the City: The Movie. In “The ‘Biggest’ Wedding of the Season?”, I’d mused about what the movie would deliver. A lot of happily-ever-after endings for Carrie and her BFFs? Meaning a wedding to Big for Carrie, and Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha having nothing but joy and contentment in their relationships. In the end that’s what the movie delivered, but not before some major heartache was endured. Life Imitating Art The weird thing … Continue reading

How to Afford a Baby When You Really Can’t Afford One

This blog is actually the result of a lamenting mother who wishes she could stay home, wishes she could have more children but states she simply can’t afford it. Let’s face it, the economy isn’t doing anyone any favors these days. She says she can barely afford diapers. Understand that I’m not judging anyone here. Whether or not you want to stay home or go to work is your choice and it doesn’t have to be mine. But it makes me sad to see fellow moms lamenting over leaving their children in day care, wanting more but claiming unaffordability all … Continue reading

What Kind of Wife…

I’m attributing this title to Jade Walker, who gave me the idea from a PM she wrote to me about the Eliot Spitzer prostitution ring scandal. I’m sure you’ve already thought of this…But what kind of woman stands by her man when he publicly acknowledges using the services of a high-priced call girl? What kind of woman stands by her man when he’s outed via extortion? What kind of woman stands by her man when an affair with an intern is revealed…to the world? And what kind of message does this send to other wives (and their daughters)? ~-Jade Walker-~ … Continue reading

Subliminal Communication 101: How to Manipulate Mates and Influence Lovers

In addition to September’s designation as Pleasure Your Mate Month, it’s also Subliminal Communications Month. “What does that have to do with marriage?” you may be wondering. Manipulation, pure and simple. Ah, but before you go judging and thinking manipulation is a bad thing, wait. Sure, manipulation has been put to many a dark use, but it is not inherently evil. Quite the contrary. Why I Use It Wayne would tell you I’ve almost mastered the fine art of manipulation. I will admit he’s right. I’ve had a good apprenticeship, though. It started in college, as part of my major … Continue reading

The Covering in 1 Corinthians Chapter 11

I’ve heard three beliefs about the covering that is referred to in 1 Corinthians chapter 11 beginning in verse 3. I’d like to break it down and hear what others think about what the true message of the scripture is. I’ll be covering verses 3 through 16. One belief I’ve heard has been made known by women who wear a bonnet such as Mennonite and Amish women. My understanding is they believe a woman’s head is to be physically covered. Another belief I’ve heard has been from women of the United Pentecostal Church who believe a woman’s long hair to … Continue reading
