If a Tree Falls in a Storm … Whose Insurance Pays?

It can happen to anyone. A big thunderstorm hits, with high winds, and pelting rain. This causes your neighbor’s tree to fall over, and to crash down on top your garage. Whose insurance pays for the damages? What type of insurance policy would a person send a claim to? The type of insurance policy that is designed to cover damages that happen to a person’s home, garage, shed, or other property is called homeowners insurance. You might have been required to purchase homeowners insurance when you bought your home. If not, then it is advisable that you get a homeowners … Continue reading

Who’s to Blame?

I’m sure I’m not just talking about something peculiar to me here, when I say sometimes in marriage you know that what you’re doing is wrong and yet you go ahead and do it anyway. That’s what I did last night. I’d wanted to tell Mick about something I’ve been involved in that’s been taking up a lot of my time lately. But why did I pick when we watching the football to start telling him about it? Good question. Needless to say, his attention was taken by what was happening on the screen. The result was I didn’t get … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for May 12-18

Heather joined Lyn and I again this week in Marriage. As always we welcome the company. To find out what we all wrote about, check out the daily breakdown below. Monday, May 12 I revealed my true feelings about Trading Places. Which, in a nutshell, was that I learned a lot and enjoyed every minute of it. While walking Murph, I pondered my recent frustrations and disappoinment with Wayne. It led me to wonder who’s to blame, him or me?. I came to the realization that we’re both to blame. Tuesday, May 13 In Devotion Levels: Benchmarks, I wrote about … Continue reading

What’s the Deal with Mr. Meow?

I don’t know what’s up with my crazy cat, but he’s acting really weird lately. So much so I’m kind of worried about him. It’s not his physical health that’s causing me concern. He’s eating fine, using the litter box as usual, playing, and being very loving. That’s what’s worrying me –those last two things. The playing and the lovingness. Normally most people’s impression of Mr. Meow is that he’s kind of a creepy cat. Even Wayne’s intimidated by him and refers to him as his nemesis because he feels Mr. Meow’s always plotting against him. (Sometimes it just so … Continue reading

Murphy, Tabby, or Kitty: Who’s to Blame?

When it used to only be Murphy and Kitty I could pretty much figure out whose mess was whose or who was to blame when something went awry in our house. If I found a hairball, it was Kitty’s. Murph’s puke looks a lot different than Kitty’s (mainly because since he’s so much bigger there’s usually so much more of it) so that was an easy deduction. If something was knocked off a table, it was usually Kitty’s fault since he likes to whap things off counters. However, there’ve been a couple of times when one was wrongly charged in … Continue reading

Outrage at the Raping Comments of an Islamic Cleric

Opposing secular, spiritual and political groups have today joined together in their outrage against the raping comments of an Australian Islamic cleric. In a Ramadan sermon, Sheik Taj al-Din al-Hilaly, reportedly compared “women who wore make-up and dressed immodestly to meat that attracted cats.” The Australian, (Australia’s major national newspaper) quoted the cleric as saying, “If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it … whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered … Continue reading

Can you guess what Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling, and Avril Lavigne all have in common with each other? Each of them also has the same thing in common with Celine Dion. While that particular genealogical claim has yet to be verified, Ancestry.com has discovered a few people that he truly is related to. Santa Bunny

The other day my 7-year-old asked me for the Easter Bunny’s email address so she could send him her gift wish list. Am I the only parent whose child thinks that the Easter Bunny is Santa’s spring replacement? What happened to kids getting dinky wicker baskets in a rainbow of pastel shades filled with hard-boiled eggs and a few Peeps? That’s what the Easter Bunny brought me as a child. It wasn’t until I was on the brink of teen-hood that the Bunny dug deep and gifted me with a few plastic eggs filled with quarters, plus a hollowed-out chocolate … Continue reading

Take Back Your Power

I’m so grateful that the stigma of being a single mother is gone. Wouldn’t it be terrible to be a single mother in the 30’s or 40’s? Even if you were single through death instead of divorce, at that time you would have been an anomaly, your children would have been viewed differently, there wouldn’t have been anyone who understands what you’re going through. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, there are many single mothers today and we have a wealth of resources available to. It is much easier to be a single mother today than … Continue reading

What You Need to Know About Your Texting Teen

If your teenager cannot connect with you on a relationship level or if that relationship is too stressful, painful, or difficult, there are plenty of other places your teen can connect. Even if your relationship is merely strained and not broken altogether, your teen has plenty of options for connection, validation, acceptance, and support apart from you. You are in competition for your teen’s connection. You are competing with peers and with technology because many of those other options for connection are only a cell phone or keypad away. It used to be that you punished a child by sending … Continue reading
