Lawsuits Over Birth Control Coverage Have No Merit

Recently, 43 Catholic organizations filed about a dozen lawsuits against the federal government. The groups feel that the federal requirement that all health insurance plans must cover birth control violates their religious freedom. This argument has no legal merit. There has been an ongoing battle regarding birth control. The federal government defines birth control as part of women’s preventative care. All preventative care must be covered by a health insurance plan without cost to the policyholder. Supreme Court Releases Audio of Second Day of Oral Arguments

Today, the Supreme Court heard two hours of oral arguments in the case about certain portions of the Affordable Care Act. They have released the audio of those arguments on the Supreme Court website. The focus of today’s arguments was about the individual mandate. This is the second part of a case called Department of Health and Human Services v. Florida. The plaintiffs for this case include 26 states, including: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Supreme Court Releases Audio of First Oral Argument

As promised, the Supreme Court has released the audio of the oral arguments that were heard in court today. This is the first time that audio of a case heard by the Supreme Court has been released on the same day that the case was heard.
