Katie Holmes Files for Divorce – Part 1

I enjoyed a great lunch with my family today and when I got in the car to return to work, I checked CNN as I often do. I was shocked to see the headline “Katie Holmes Files for Divorce from Tom Cruise,” then I was shocked at the fact that I was shocked. It’s not like we haven’t been through this before. Cruise married his first wife, actress Mimi Rogers, in May 1987. I think Rogers was the one who introduced Cruise to Scientology…unfortunately. Sorry, I am, just not a fan of Scientology. Those two divorced in February 1990. Cruise … Continue reading

Meaningful Friendships

I have been blessed with great friends throughout my life. When they first learned of my divorce they flocked around me to support me and get me through that difficult time in our lives. They called, sent Facebook messages, and many text messages just to check in on me and make sure I knew that they were always there if I needed anything. I was grateful to have them at a time when I felt like I had nothing else. As time went on we all got busier and busier with our lives. We all have families of their own … Continue reading

Kim and Kris Marry…No Wait, Divorce

I didn’t blog about the Kim Kardashian/Kris Humphries wedding because frankly, I don’t really care for people who became famous for no reason at all. Now some of her fans might say “But Libby, she is a successful reality star and business woman. Uh, no. Do something that shows some remote talent, then I will consider you famous. So, I refused to blog about the wedding, yet now I feel compelled by my love for Hollywood scandal to let you know I will blog about the divorce. Yes, that is right, I said “divorce.” After a brief 72 days (is … Continue reading

Not Friends Anymore

Earlier this week as I was trying to convince my three year old son that it was time to take a bath he said something that really hit me. Our conversation went a little something like this. “Logan, you need to be a good listener and get in the tub now. It is getting late and Mommy needs to go to bed.” Still no response from him. I was getting rather frustrated by this point seeing as I had been trying to get him in the tub for over thirty minutes now. So I said, “Logan if you don’t get … Continue reading

Best Friends

As a parent, I am so grateful for Hailey’s friends. As a single parent I am doubly grateful. It’s so important to talk to your kids, but that doesn’t mean our kids always talk to us. They need friends to talk to, friends who sympathize and understand. All we can do is hope they make good choices with those friends so they are not being given hurtful advice. I have been so lucky; Hailey has had some amazing friends. Girls and boys that I love to have around. She met her best friend on the first day of kindergarten and … Continue reading

Divorce is Contagious

Divorce is contagious. You catch it from your friends. At least that’s the opinion of experts Mick heard recently on the radio. We were talking about this among other things in the car yesterday after listening to a sermon from our minister about the way marriage should operate and the biblical view of marriage. But back to divorce being catching among friends. Mick and I began to wonder why this should be so. No it doesn’t necessarily mean the reason is that the couples in a group of friends are having affairs with each other and that’s why divorce results, … Continue reading

Sandra Bullock Adopts, Files for Divorce

It has been the best of times and the worst of times for Sandra Bullock this year. She not only got her first Academy Award nomination, but won Best Actress. She seemed on top of the world with her biker husband Jesse James by her side. But just days after her win, a cheating scandal exploded into the media and since then, multiple James mistresses have spoken out. Bullock has been in hiding for the most part, although friends like George Lopez have visited her. Now we found out that maybe she had something else on her mind other than … Continue reading

Home School Blogger Intro

I started as a home schooling blogger on Families.com about a month ago. My introduction post is a little overdue, but I wanted to share with others a bit about myself and my background as a home schooling single mother. My two oldest daughters went to public school all the way through high school. A move to a rough area of Baltimore had me quickly pulling my three youngest out of school and home schooling them myself. It was a decision I wish I had made with my older girls. Live and learn though, right? For the most part I … Continue reading

Things Married Friends Do That Annoy Single Parents

Over the years many of my friends have been guilty of at least one of the annoying habits listed below. Although they’re famous for trying to make me feel better, help out, and be supportive, at times they can do the exact opposite. As a single parent, have you run across any of these situations? Friends Who Ask About Your Ex Whether you’ve been divorced for six months or six years, for some reason I always run into friends who want to know how my ex is doing. Since we didn’t part on the best of terms, I honestly don’t … Continue reading

Divorces for Usher and Barry Bonds

Just four short months after wife Tameka suffered cardiac arrest in Brazil reportedly during plastic surgery, Usher has filed for divorce. He filed the petition in Superior Court in Atlanta on Friday. The couple married in August 2007 after cancelling their July wedding. That November, the couple’s first son Usher Raymond V, was born. Tameka gave birth to their second son, Naviyd, last December. Many speculated that the cardiac arrest was due to having plastic surgery too soon after the birth of a child. A source told PEOPLE magazine that the couple had been leading separate lives for months. That … Continue reading
