What Would You Sacrifice for Your Marriage?by Dale Harcombe | More from this Blogger 26 Apr 2009 01:56 PM
Saturday in Australia and New Zealand was a day when we remember the sacrifice made by many during war time where men sacrificed their lives that their wives and families might live in peace. There have been other examples where men have been hailed as heroes after saving their wife. Last year in a blizzard, a man sacrificed his life in for his wife and friend. That's sacrificial love. Here's another example from 1872 of a man whose initial aim was making money. In time, he came to see exactly what it had cost him and did his best to rectify the situation by sacrificing his own happiness for his wife's welfare. Or we might take a current day example like Michelle Obama of sacrificing one's own rights and ambitions to further the career of your spouse. Would you be sacrifice your career and personal ambitions to help your spouse or family achieve their dreams? Would you sacrifice your time to make a special gift for your spouse? Years ago when we were really struggling and couldn't afford much in the way of gifts, I made two shirts for my husband. If you know me, you'd know I'm not a sewer. I don't do crafty things at all. But I made those shirts, sacrificing hours and, at times, my own peace of mind to produce this gift for him. He wore those shirts made with love, if not skill, for years. Would you sacrifice your pride and apologize after an argument even if you didn't think you were the one in the wrong? Would you sacrifice you own desires and forgo something you wanted, to go with your spouse to see a movie or play or exhibition they wanted to see? Guys, would you sacrifice a weekend away with mates so your wife could have a break? These aren't major life changing decision which will make you a hero in the world's eyes. They are the sort of everyday decisions that often go to making up a marriage. So back to the original question. What would you sacrifice for your marriage?
