Speed Dating, Animal Lovers Style

I know people who aren’t comfortable with adopting pets from shelters. They have good reasons, such as being uncertain about the animal’s background. Some of them even had specific negative experiences, encountering severe behavioral problems that sometimes come with shelter pets. After all, animals sometimes end up in shelters after leaving neglectful or abusive homes, and that leaves a mental mark. I try to reassure my friends in these situations, tell them that honestly as long as they don’t buy from pet stores or puppy mills, that reputable breeders are always a positive source for pets. But I try to … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review – November 4 –10

It’s been a busy and exciting week here in the Marriage blog. There was a national election on Tuesday that saw 7 states accept constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage, while one state – Arizona said no to that ban. If you don’t read my fitness blog, you may not have known that I also quit smoking this week and today marks Day 4 heading into Day 5 and I’ll be writing about how great my spouse has been in supporting this effort next week. In the meanwhile, if you missed any of our key stories this week, here is … Continue reading

What the Heck is Speed Dating?

The first time I heard of speed dating was when I saw the movie, “Hitch.” Will Smith goes after the girl who stole his heart, and interrupts her mid “date” to tell her how he feels about her. You may have heard of this trend before, but some of us old married ladies were unaware of this phenomenon. I thought it was rather intriguing. The idea is to gather lots of singles together to mingle, and then to have them engage each other in one on one conversation for a specified amount of time. Then, when the time limit expires, … Continue reading

Free Kibble

Please help fill my bowl If you’ve been surfing the Internet for any length of time then you probably know about thehungersite.com, the earliest in a chain of websites that ask users to click on banners every day to donate food or other resources to worthy causes. The series of sites now include support for the rainforest, child literacy, shelter animals, women’s health, and more. It’s obvious with the various rescue sites where the money is coming from; once you’ve made a click you’re redirected to a page that’s plastered with ads. Advertisers pay that charitable money for us to … Continue reading

Friends to Mates: Factors to Consider

Good relationships are built on the foundation of friendship. When the two people who make up a romantic couple are also best friends, the bond that they share is even stronger. Therefore it is a good idea to share a special friendship with your mate. By the term friendship, I mean people that share common likes and dislikes. Friends are people who share hopes, dreams, and ideas with one another. People who can go out and have a good time together. Friends are people who have things in common to discuss. Yes, believe it or not there are couples who … Continue reading

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

I’ve heard a lot about “The Pursuit of Happyness” but just got around to watching it the other night. Now I can’t figure out why I waited so long. Will Smith stars as Chris Gardner, a man with a young family comprised of his wife Linda (Thandie Newton) and his son Chris (played by Will’s own son, Jaden Smith). Chris works selling bone density scanners – he sunk his entire life savings into buying several of the units, and must hit the sidewalks to find doctors interested in buying the units. Linda works double shifts at a restaurant while Little … Continue reading
