Adventure to Inspire – Homeschool Blog Review

Over the last month, I’ve had the chance to talk with ToriAnn Perkey, homeschooling mom who runs the blog Adventure to Inspire. As we’ve chatted, we’ve investigated her reasons for choosing homeschool for her family, and today I’d like to talk about the blog itself. I was first introduced to the blog by her husband, Josh. I’m usually a little leery when someone says, “Hey, my wife blogs. Check it out.” But I’ve known and respected Josh for a long time, so I headed on over. What I found was an awesome resource. There are articles sharing thoughts and ideas, … Continue reading

10 Reasons Why We Chose a Midwife

My quest for a midwife was largely motivated by my dislike of shots, needles, drugs, and hospitals. After reading a large number of books and several articles comparing and contrasting birthing options, the benefits of using a midwife for the pregnancy and birth of our son was undeniable and 100% desirable. Here are our top ten reasons for choosing a midwife in no particular order: Reason Number One — More Control: Instead of being a passive participant with things happening to me, I was actively seeking to ensure the best possible outcome for both pregnancy and birth. The midwives supported … Continue reading

The Best Kind of Distraction

My son is adorable. He’s just recently joined the “4 months old” club and I couldn’t be prouder of him. He sits up better every day. He’ll look into your eyes and smile. He’ll laugh. He’ll play with toys you put in front of him. He’s gaining talents in every area. It is amazing to me that he’s cuter each and every day. He shares that trait with my wife. So allow me to paint a picture for you. This is a cautionary tale to all parents of newborns and I share it to caution you of the dangers that … Continue reading

How I Ended Up a Stay-at-Home Wife

It seems that once I made the confession that I’m a stay-at-home wife, I can’t quit talking about the topic. It’s been so freeing! Now I want to spill about how it was I ended up a stay-at-home wife. (Don’t worry. This will be the last post on this topic for a little bit. I’m working some more stuff up for September, though.) The Pull I was a good student throughout my academic career. I went to college. I worked afterwards. But I ended up job hopping. Then I decided to go back to school to become a paralegal. The … Continue reading

Yes, I Confess, I’m a Stay-at-Home Wife

Jade Walker is proving to be more than a muse to me. To borrow a term often used by one of my favorite literary characters, Anne Shirley, she’s proving to be a kindred spirit. And somewhat of a healer. I’m Not Alone Shortly before my mom died, Jade sent me a link to a new blog about caring for elderly parents with a note that said, “Remember: You are not alone.” She thought I might find it useful since I was in the midst of caring for my mom. It was easy to feel alone back then, but notes like … Continue reading

Soap Star’s Wife Gives Birth to a Peanut

Apple meet Peanut. For real. Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter has got nothing on “General Hospital” star Ingo Rademacher and his fiancee, Ehiku’s new son. The unfairly gorgeous couple welcomed a baby boy into the world on July 11th and decided to name their new addition “Peanut.” No joke. Peanut Kai Rademacher was delivered via a home birth at the actor’s home in Malibu and is reportedly “healthy and happy.” Rademacher, who plays Jax on the popular ABC soap opera, says he and his fiancee started calling the baby Peanut while he was “cooking inside of mommy” and decided to keep the … Continue reading

Speaking Your Wife’s Language

You may be asking yourself, “What does speaking your wife’s language have to do with being a good father?” I remain convinced (for those who are married) that you have to be a good husband first before you can be a good father. Dr. Gary Chapman has written a book entitled, The Five Love Languages. In his book Dr. Chapman lists the five “languages” as 1. Words of Affirmation 2. Quality Time 3. Receiving Gifts 4. Acts of Service 5. Physical Touch I had the privilege of hearing one of Dr. Chapman’s messages at our church back in the 1990’s … Continue reading

Two of a Kind

If you discovered your ex was dating someone who looked like they could be your twin would you A.) Be complimented B.) Be Insulted or C.) Be completely freaked out? Well, you have to wonder how Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife/fiancée/girlfriend (whatever she was before they split following their vow exchange in Bora Bora on New Year’s Day, which turned out to be legally non-binding) Tracey Edmonds is feeling now that the actor is dating her reflection. Okay, maybe they don’t look exactly alike, but some say Lara LaRue is a dead ringer for Edmonds and Murphy couldn’t be happier. If you … Continue reading
