Tips to Make Your Wedding Personal

When it comes to wedding planning, we all want to make our wedding something special. Perhaps there are family traditions to uphold or perhaps you want to create your own traditions. What makes a wedding personal is what investment the bride and groom put into how they hold it, where they hold it and the involvement of their guests or wedding parties.

If you want to make your wedding more personal, more unique - more about you as a couple - try some of the following:

• Invite wedding guests to share their wisdom or advice on your wedding invitation RSVP cards. Not only are you more likely to get notified that a guest is coming or not; but even from guests who cannot make it - you will get advice - some good, some funny and some that you may discard. But this is a way to invite your guests to be more involved in your wedding.
• Instead of having the wedding party perform readings at the wedding, ask family members for wedding pictures and stories - hearing the mixed family culture's different wedding tales at a wedding ceremony can make it more intimate for both sides of the family and for the bride and groom.
• When you have multiple marriages in a family, invite mothers, step-mothers and grandmothers to each prepare a dish for the reception. Make sure the dishes you ask for are very specific of them and remind you of them. If they are desserts, even better!
• Lots of children in the family? Give each of them a flower and ask them to give the bride a flower during the wedding ceremony - it's a creative way to build a wedding bouquet and to involve all the kids in the wedding no matter who is ring bearer or flower girl.
• During the vow portion of the ceremony, ask the parents on both sides to offer vows as well. They can pledge to support the couple physically, emotionally and spiritually - after all weddings unite families and how personal can you get but to make the ceremony personal for everyone involved!
