This Week in History – June, 1993

It was 15 years ago, but it seems like only yesterday. Yes, we are going back to this week in June 1993 to find out what was happening in our world: In national news, Nutri-System was forced to claim bankruptcy. Because of that, the company had to close 283 stores and lay off 1,800 employees. The White House began receiving email via this crazy invention called the Internet. By the end of this week, the Montreal Canadiens will have won their 24th Stanley Cup after defeating the Los Angeles Kings. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland broke … Continue reading

Famous Oprah Moments – Part 4

It seems that the memorable Oprah moments just never end! Here are a few more: Oprah’s Tearful Moment Oh sure, Oprah has shed more than one tear over the years, but when she hosted author Truddi Chase, she really broke down. Chase wrote “When Rabbit Howls,” a memoir of her tragic childhood in which she was raped by her stepfather. Oprah broke into tears when introducing Chase and asked the cameraman to stop filming her. Oprah too was a victim of sexual abuse, having been raped at the age of nine and giving birth to a son who died in … Continue reading

Infidelity: Insult and Injury

In Does an STD Make the Crime of an Affair Even Worse?, I pondered just that. As deedee1231 pointed out, it probably doesn’t make it worse, it just adds insult to injury. I believe that. Yet when I wrote that article I didn’t think beyond an STD as a consequence of an affair that might add insult to injury. But then the whole prostitution scandal with former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer happened. Except, before I could ponder how he not only embarrassed himself but his poor wife and that’s certainly a huge insult too, my mom fell sick. I … Continue reading

Donald Trump Looking to Make Ladies from Tramps

And he’s starting with Miss Ashley Alexander Dupré a.k.a. former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s call girl. I know what you are thinking: Trump + Dupré = The Perfect Match. Well, it’s not a done deal yet. According to insiders, Donald Trump is courting the 22-year-old prostitute to star in his new MTV reality TV show (now that “The Celebrity Apprentice” is over he’s got to have his hand in something). The yet-to-be titled series is being produced by Trump’s company and was picked up by MTV for eight 60-minute episodes. The show is reportedly based on a British series called “Ladette … Continue reading

What Kind of Wife…

I’m attributing this title to Jade Walker, who gave me the idea from a PM she wrote to me about the Eliot Spitzer prostitution ring scandal. I’m sure you’ve already thought of this…But what kind of woman stands by her man when he publicly acknowledges using the services of a high-priced call girl? What kind of woman stands by her man when he’s outed via extortion? What kind of woman stands by her man when an affair with an intern is revealed…to the world? And what kind of message does this send to other wives (and their daughters)? ~-Jade Walker-~ … Continue reading

Thoughts on Political Scandals and the Marriages They Rock

The scandal of New York’s Governor Eliot Spitzer makes perfect fodder for the Marriage blog, doesn’t it? There’s so much to contemplate, so many dynamics to consider. Standing by a Man Who’s Done Them Wrong In a previous article I wrote how I watched Dina Matos on Today talk about her experience being in the same shoes as Eliot Spitzer’s wife, Silda, found herself in recently. In Matos’s case, she stood by her husband’s side when he admitted to having sexual relations with another man. There’s no telling why Silda chose to stand by her husband. They’ve been married over … Continue reading
