Why People Gain Weight After Stopping Atkins

After being on the Atkins diet for most of the Summer, I am at the point where I am seriously considering quitting it. One cannot stay on a diet forever. The problem is that I have heard that people tend to gain their weight right back after quitting the Atkins diet. Why does that happen? Dieting is not easy. It requires people to dramatically change their eating habits. Most people resist change, even if they know that it will benefit them. Dieting forces people to think about each and every food that they are considering eating, which can be quite … Continue reading

Two Interesting Comments

Do you love your spouse for who he or she is? In a novel I was reading recently by Kristin Hannah, called Between Sisters, the husband tells his wife two things about why he’s leaving her for another woman, that struck me as important: ‘Nothing I do is good enough for you.’ The second is more about the woman he has been seeing ‘She loves who I am, not who I could be if I were more ambitious.’ They’re telling comments and although it’s fiction the comment s have the ring of truth about them. The first one made me … Continue reading

Is It Really Cheating When…?

Often spouses ask other people, such as their best buddies what constitutes cheating. They may google the phrase, “What is cheating,” or look to experts to answer the question. They may even wonder to themselves if a thought or an action is considered cheating. Wait, check the Bible or the latest self help book. For example, if I kiss someone other than my husband on the lips is it cheating? What if the kiss is on the cheek, or if the lip kiss is to a best friend or aging relative? Is it cheating if I share secrets with someone … Continue reading

The Importance of Encouragement

It was really brought home to me once again recently the absolute importance of encouragement. Yes, I know I sound like a broken record (showing my age there!) but I after experiencing quite the opposite recently, I felt very deflated. No, it wasn’t Mick but a friend. By the time I’d been on the receiving end of a string of negative comments, I ended up wondering why I had bothered. Beth has covered this topic before in regard to toxic friends who undermine and leave you feeling bad about yourself. The thing is, I’m not sure the person even realized … Continue reading

The Top Reason Why Men Cheat

What is the number one reason that men cheat on their wives? Do you think you know the answer. Well, you might actually be surprised by the real answer. When asked this question: why do men cheat, most people will answer that it is because of sexual dissatisfaction. But according to research, this isn’t the real answer at all. M. Gary Neuman, the author of the book, The Truth About Cheating and a marriage and family therapist, says that his research has shown that the number one reason that men cheat is because they feel that their wives don’t appreciate … Continue reading

How to Keep Your Pet from Cheating on You

In keeping with the theme of the last couple of days, I couldn’t very well talk about unfaithful pets and cats adopting other people without examining ways to keep your pet from straying. Over in Marriage, infidelity is a hot topic. I’m of the camp that believes one of the factors that causes a husband to stray is because he’s not getting enough attention at home. I figured based on other people interviewed in the MSNBC.com article “Getting dogged: When your pet cheats on you” by Kim Campbell Thornton that it would stand to reason that’s why pets cheat too. … Continue reading

Today’s “Why I Got Married, Why I Stayed Single” Series

I caught an interesting segment on Today this morning. They’re examining why people get married or decide to stay single. This morning they started with why people get married. Why Get Married? I’ve often wondered this. I know why little girls get married. Part of it has to do with the Cinderella effect. Marriage is glamorized early on in a little girl’s life. But why do men marry? This has never made sense to me. Maybe it’s because of something Tristi pointed out in a comment on another blog: how the media belittles men. Tristi said she’s noticed it recently … Continue reading

Why Mario Lopez May Never Marry Again

Subtitle: So This is Why Mario and Karina Are No Longer a Couple Timing is everything isn’t it? The same day PEOPLE magazine named Mario Lopez as its Hottest Bachelor of the Year, Star magazine ran an interview with the woman who reportedly helped the actor maintain his bachelor status. While some hinted that the Chorus Line star was about to pop the question to his girlfriend (and former “Dancing with the Stars” pro partner) Karina Smirnoff, a waitress from San Antonio, Texas knew better. Meaghan Cooper claims Lopez romanced her for 11 months behind Smirnoff’s back and is the … Continue reading

Why are We Jealous?

My last article gave some of my thoughts on jealousy. The topic of jealousy came about from an article that I wrote discussing running into an ex boyfriend or an ex girlfriend. One of my readers commented that she is still very close to her ex boyfriend and that her current boyfriend has no problem with the friendship. In my last article, I commented that I do not believe that jealousy is always tied to mistrust. I feel that a small amount of jealousy is in our human nature. Jealousy begins well before any intimate relationships. There is much more … Continue reading
