The Language of Loveby Heather Long | More from this Blogger 29 Apr 2006 03:38 PM Recently, I was filling out an application and it asked what languages do I speak and that got me thinking. Late, the next day I was filling out the application for my daughter's enrollment in kindergarten. It asked what language we spoke at home. The basis of the question is the fact that we live in a country where multiple languages are spoken. Spanish, French, English, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, German and many, many more are the languages spoken throughout the country. Our schools, our employers and our communities need to know what type of language we speak in order to make sure that we are able of communicating. But we speak another language, a language that should be communal to the whole world and it is the one language that is capable of overcoming even the most difficult of communication barriers. That language is the language of love. How do we show our understanding of the language of love? We do it through acts of kindness and caring. For example, one way you demonstrate the language of love are picking up Angels off an Angel Tree at Christmas and purchasing a gift for a child listed on the angel. We demonstrate our language of love by cooking meals, doing laundry or just going to pick up something they mention that they want. The language of love is how we cope with our spouses even when we are annoyed or frustrated or worse - separated. Last summer, my husband took a job that kept him traveling for three months. The separation was awful for both of us. He hated being away from home. I hated having him gone. We left little gifts for each other. He hid a few around the house. I hid a few in his luggage. When we found them, we saw the language of love spoken even in absence. Whatever love language you use to communicate is very personal. It works for each individual couple and it may be very different from those witnessed in other couples. How do you practice your language of love? How do you show what you care about each other? How did you discover the language of love between the two of you? Learn more about Heather Long ![]() Heather Long is 35 years old and currently lives in Wylie, Texas.
