One Year Came and Went

Sometimes I think the first birthday comes in the blink of an eye. Other times, I think it takes forever to get there. That’s what having a baby is all about. Time is either dragging slowly or speeding by so fast you want to cry. When my baby turned 1 last month, I felt like crying. I think it’s because he has been such a little love. So sweet. And, he is my last baby. My last baby is one. That breaks my heart. But, at the same time, it makes me so happy. I look forward to all the … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for May 26 – June 1

For most, last week was short because of the Memorial Day weekend. In case cookouts and pool parties kept you away from the Marriage Blog, use this handy Week in Review to catch yourself up on what Lyn, Heather, and I wrote about last week. Wednesday, May 28 Lyn wrote about the company that specializes in maternity wedding dresses. (Apparently it’s a growing trend and this company has found its niche. Wild!) Lyn wrote about a woman’s research of couples choosing not to have children which became known as the “childless by choice project”. (And which also spawned a book.) … Continue reading

The 80 Year Kiss

Take a moment to get to know Frank and Anita Milford who celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary on May 26th (while most Americans were celebrating Memorial Day). The couple attributes the success of their marriages to the ‘little kisses’ they share throughout the day, but especially the ones before bed time. The couple is believed to be the oldest married couple in Britain and Mrs. Milford had some advice for younger couples: Couples these days don’t last long because they don’t take enough time for each other. There just isn’t enough respect. Our advice to young couples would be to … Continue reading

OAHU If you are looking for an unforgettable place to bid adieu to 2007 consider booking a seat on the Star of Honolulu, which sets sail New Year’s Eve for a celebration at sea. Murphy’s Best Friend: Tucker, the 80 Pound Wonder Dog

Murph at Tuck’s Birthday Party. (Tucker’s the rust colored dog to the right of Murph.) In honor of Best Friends Day, I thought it’d be fun to profile Murph’s all time bestest bud in the whole wide world: Tucker Joseph. (Or, as I like to call him, Tuck Tuck Toodle Bottoms.) How They Met When we adopted Murphy, he was about the friendliest little pup around. He was always eager to meet other dogs. (Kind of reminds me of Aimee’s thoughts on being a dog and how the world would be a better place if we were all a little … Continue reading

Somewhere in Time (1980)

Christopher Reeve is most commonly known for his starring role in the “Superman” movies, but in no film was he as charming, handsome and romantic than “Somewhere in Time.” He plays Richard Collier, a playwright who staged his first production while in college. After the performance, an elderly woman approaches him, presses a pocket watch into his hand, and says, “Come back to me.” He’s confused but curious. Unable to figure out who she was, he goes forward with his life, producing plays and having some success. But one day, feeling the strain of writer’s block, he goes out for … Continue reading

Smokey Clocked You Going 80… Now What Do You Do?

What did you do the last time you were pulled over for speeding? Cry? Beg for leniency? Pretend you don’t speak English? I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with a friend who was pulled over for speeding a block from her home. She can cry on cue better than any actress I’ve seen. This “talent” to cry profusely usually gets her out of paying $200 speeding tickets. Guess what? It worked again today. So what if you can’t release the waterworks as well as my friend? I posed the question to a police officer friend of mine who … Continue reading

80 Parenting Tips

Parents Magazine has been around for 80 years and in the October 2006, in honor of their anniversary, they offer 80 Tips for Parents From Parents. Here are some of my favorites: Give yourself a break, being a parent means making mistakes and we should not beat ourselves up about them. Instead, we should learn and move on. Create a weekly family ritual like talking a walk in the park, having pancakes for dinner or playing charades. Be affectionate to your kids. Begin and end each day with “I love you” and offer lots of hugs and kisses. Learn to … Continue reading

Baby Loves

I am a very lovey dovey kind of Mom. I hug and kiss on my kids (especially when they’re babies) all the time! So, one of my favorite things is when they start to “give loves” back to you. It is the best. Well, I first noticed my baby giving loves to a stuffed animal the other day when my niece was visiting. She gave him a stuffed animal, and he put it up next to his face and snuggled it between his head and his shoulder. It was adorable. One of the best feelings is when they can wrap … Continue reading

In Awe

A friend of mine told me about a girl that I knew nothing about the other day, but it really impacted me, and I’ve been thinking about her ever since. I haven’t read her book, or been a long-time reader of her blog like I’m sure many people have, but I am impressed by her selflessness. If the whole world could have her attitude and obvious trust in God in all things, then the world would definitely be a better place. Her blog is here. She is 23 years old. And, she has adopted 13 Ugandan girls. Yes, it blew … Continue reading
