The Marriage Blog Week in Review for April 9 – April 13, 2007

As I said earlier in the fitness blog week in review, I’m still a little flummoxed that we’re already at the weekend. This week flew by and here we are at the weekend, taking a swift glance back over our shoulder. We had some great articles this week and I hope you enjoyed them, but if you missed any, here is our marriage blog week in review: Monday, April 9 In the News: Vetoed “Marriage” Bill in California Revisited takes a look at what’s happening in California – for real this time – this isn’t an April Fool’s Joke. In … Continue reading

Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson are Pregnant!

Okay, the title of this blog is a bit misleading. The one time reality television couple is pregnant, just not with each other. If you’ve seen a recent photo of Jessica Simpson, you know that she is very, very pregnant. In fact, it looks like she is about to pop any day now. After much speculation, Simpson released the news last Halloween with a tweet that said, “It’s true – I’m going to be a mummy” along with a pic of her dressed as a mummy. Baby daddy is fiancé Eric Johnson. (This image is a work of a U.S. … Continue reading

Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Snake Infestation?

A family in Idaho bought a house for an unexpectedly low price. They soon discovered the reason behind the discounted price. The home was infested with snakes! It made me wonder if there was any kind of insurance that could have helped this unfortunate family. Ben and Amber Sessions (and their two young children), bought what they thought was their dream home. It had five bedrooms, was in the rural countryside, and was a price they could afford. They ended up paying just $180,000 for the home. Amber was pregnant with the couple’s third child at the time, and it … Continue reading

More Than Meets the Eye

“Oh my goodness! Look at that strange bird,” I exclaimed while pointing to a black object that kept darting and diving around a sledding hill near our home. “That’s not a bird, Mommy,” replied my 6-year-old. “It’s a helicopter.” Lo and behold my daughter was absolutely right. What I saw as a mutated black buzzard was actually a remote control helicopter being piloted by a neighbor kid. Even with contacts, my 20/500 vision cannot be corrected well enough to compete with my child’s razor-sharp eagle eyes. “I don’t even need binoculars to see,” she added proudly. “My talents are reading, … Continue reading

The Greatest Influence

What or who would you describe as being the greatest influence on your life? That was a question asked recently of Brett Kirk and the footballer, a legend here in Australia and especially in Sydney, said his wife Hayley was the greatest influence on his life. What a lovely comment that is. It made me wonder how many of us would like to be described that way by our spouse or how many of us can describe our spouse that way. I know Mick is a great influence on my life. He is always there to cheer on and encourage … Continue reading

Are You Satistfied With Your Life?

Are you satisfied with your life? That was the question asked in a recent online poll. I was interested to read that 53 percent said no and only 47 percent said yes. Could you say yes? I could. The way we view life and our marriage has a big bearing on how we treat our spouse and our attitude towards marriage. If you are dissatisfied then you are usually looking with a critical or judgmental eye at your spouse and wanting to change them. It could also be that you are looking at others and wishing your spouse was more … Continue reading

Living Together Before Marriage

Living together before marriage is very common in today’s society. It almost seems to be the expected thing these days. I’ve heard people say its better to try it first and see whether you’re suited. But living together is not as good a test as some people might like to think. In fact statistics show those who live together before marriage are more likely to divorce than those who don’t. I’ve had friends who have lived together before marriage and translated that to a successful marriage. I also know those who have lived together and then, as soon as marriage … Continue reading

Children Will Listen

Children will listen. Children will learn and nowhere is this more true than when it comes to marriage. Children will watch and hear if Dad treats their Mom with love gentleness and respect. They will listen and learn from the way Mom treats her husband – whether it is one of love and respect. They will also listen and watch and learn if the opposite its true. The other day in the car Mick and I were listening to Children Will Listen from Into the Woods, which is Mick’s favorite musical, and I couldn’t help thinking how true those words … Continue reading

Marriage Essentials

Do you want to know four essentials for a good marriage? Here they are: Encouragement This quality cannot be stressed enough. One of our adult offspring once said, ‘you and Dad always encouraged me in whatever I did. You made me believe I could do anything I set my mind to.’ While I was pleased to hear that, I also thought that’s the sort of encouragement each of us needs to be for our spouse. We need to be behind them in whatever they do encouraging them every step of the way, whether it’s changing jobs or learning a new … Continue reading
