Starry Nights, Spooky Blog Tours, and Dachshunds: An Interview with Author Christine Verstraete

This next interviewee’s name may look familiar to you since I’ve interviewed Christine Verstraete before. Last time it was about her miniature doll hobby and the dogs she often includes in her displays. This time around I asked if she’d be interested in talking about Petey, the dachshund who stars in her new book, Searching For A Starry Night, A Miniature Art Mystery. She again graciously agreed, and added something fun just in time for Halloween: details on her spooky blog tour and how you can enter to win a set of Halloween minis or a copy of her e-book, … Continue reading

Marriage Activity: Seasonal Scavenger Hunt – Fall

Today I finally get to use one of my favorite sayings: Happy Fall Y’All! (I just think that’s such a cute expression.) Okay, now that that’s out of my system, I can move on. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I think because of all the romantic potential that’s in the air. The weather cools down, lending to snuggling inside and taking long strolls outside. (Arm and arm, of course, to keep the chill away.) There’s all sorts of seasonal gastronomic delights to savor. (I love sharing my food with Wayne.) And, one of my all time faves, fall … Continue reading

Do You Play Games with Your Spouse?

I seem to have developed an affinity for coming up with potentially misleading titles this week. A couple of days ago I wrote Change Your Bedding, Change Your Sex Life, which could have been construed to mean I was implying something more simple than what I really was. Now this title could be taken to mean I wonder if you play mind games with your spouse. That might make for an interesting topic one day, but today’s not that day. I’m actually talking about real games. Fun games. Board games, card games, video games, etc. Games Couples Play I’m more … Continue reading

Not-So-Spooky Halloween Events for Families

My young daughter would rather have her favorite stuffed puppy torn in half than have to stroll by a haunted house on Halloween. Pumpkin patches, hay mazes, and candy paths are more her speed. And thanks to hundreds of zoos and aquariums around the nation parents like me can celebrate the season with their young children without damaging an eardrum in the process. If you are part of the stroller crowd consider contacting your local zoo to see if they are hosting Halloween events this month. In the meantime, check out this list of Halloween happenings taking place at zoos … Continue reading

More Places To Take Your Little Ghosts And Goblins For Some Safe Halloween Fun

Now I’ve done it. Yesterday I posted a blog with a picture of my daughter wearing her very first Halloween costume. She happened to catch sight of the photo featuring her in the spotted Dalmatian creation and insisted I get it out of the closet for her. She then spent the better part of the day trying to squeeze her 3-year-old body into the costume she wore when she was a year old. Never mind that we have her new costume for this year, which fits just fine. No, she wanted to be a pooch–the power of suggestion! If you … Continue reading

Cold Outside? Stay Inside – A Fun, Frugal Idea for Entertaining Your Kids

The brisk cold winter days have approached. In fact, some states have already had their first dump of the white flaky stuff. Which would be great, because children love to play in the snow. However, not all of us are lucky enough to get the great snowfall this early, so children tend to avoid being outside in the bitter cold. So what do you do with them? Sure, you can take them to movies, the arcade, bowling, skating, etc. But all of that costs money. How do you entertain children inside all winter long on a budget? It’s not as … Continue reading
