Renovate Your Marriage

New year is often a time when people turn towards renovation or decluttering as Mary Ann and Tricia suggest. But have you thought about renovating and decluttering your marriage? As you think about renovations for you marriage it might raise some questions like, when should I do it? There’s no time like the present especially if things are feeling a bit stale in your marriage or if bad habits have crept into your marriage. Look for ways to spice it up and show your spouse how important they are to you. The thing is – the longer we put off … Continue reading

Hold on to Your Money: Cabinet Knobs

Are you just itching to do a renovation in your home but know that it isn’t a good idea to spend any money right now? Sometimes just changing a little inexpensive thing can make a big difference. Fresh new knobs can bring new life to your cabinets, drawers or even furniture. You can feel blessed with something modern and new without spending much at all. This past weekend as I was waiting for our washer to fill, I started to explore a little bit of the basement. There is a shelf that I call the “man” shelf. It is full … Continue reading

Two Interesting Comments

Do you love your spouse for who he or she is? In a novel I was reading recently by Kristin Hannah, called Between Sisters, the husband tells his wife two things about why he’s leaving her for another woman, that struck me as important: ‘Nothing I do is good enough for you.’ The second is more about the woman he has been seeing ‘She loves who I am, not who I could be if I were more ambitious.’ They’re telling comments and although it’s fiction the comment s have the ring of truth about them. The first one made me … Continue reading

Start the Year Right

A new year is a good time to think about our Christian life and our relationship with God. A good place to start could be with Psalm 119. With 176 verses, there are lots of great verses in this psalm, but the ones I am focusing on today and next week are verses 9-16. In these days of home renovations, renovations of marriage and what people expect from it, we need to think about renovating our lives. There’s not one of us who doesn’t have something that needs to be changed in our lives. The best way to do that … Continue reading

One Simple Change Can Make All the Difference

Sometimes an inexpensive item can make all the difference and really lift a room. It might be a new set of cushion covers, new curtains, a lamp shade or a collection of photos on the wall. Whatever it is it should be something that reflects you and your family and your interests. At one stage on one wall we had a collection of black and white photographs all taken by our daughter and taken around the area in which we lived. Framed in simple inexpensive black frames, they became a talking point when visitors came. Recently we bought a throw … Continue reading

Lifestyle Change

Last year Ms Weston of the tiny village of Cumnock NSW, Australia, came up with an initiative that saw city and interstate families radically change their lifestyle. Concerned about the decline in numbers at the local school she came up with a plan to convince people to move to the area. Her plan was to bring people into the area by offering cheap rental. $1 a week gets a family a farmhouse. It may have an inadequate kitchen and an outside toilet (or dunny as we’d call it in Aussie slang,) but despite the obvious drawbacks people snapped them up. … Continue reading

Our “Jon & Kate” Moments

With all of the controversy surrounding TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus Eight, I started thinking about what life might be like if we were on a reality show and cameras were catching our every move. Would I be like precise no-nonsense Kate Gosselin or like nurturing Aunt Jodi? And what kind of awkward moments would be captured for all of the world to see that would have people wondering about the parenting style we use with our little ones or actively criticizing our lives. The hairdo A lot has been said about Kate’s wacky hair do that she calls her … Continue reading
