Who Controls the Remote?

Who controls the remote in your house? My guess is in most cases it is the man. That’s certainly true in our case, purely because I am a non technical woman who has trouble with machines. So this has been a conscious choice to let Mick take care of it. Some men seem loathe to part with it ever. The way the carry on has to be seen to be believed. I have known women complain they never get to watch a full show because as soon as an advertisement comes on the husband switches the channel. Of course I … Continue reading

Avoid Nitpicking for a Happier Marriage

Some people raise nitpicking to an art form. For these individuals, they expect the best, or at least things done the way that they think they should be done, and will settle for no less. But even with couples that are easy going, some nitpicking can sneak in. We are all capable of it, but if you want to have a happy marriage, you should avoid the nitpicking at all costs. Nickpicking nearly drove me insane in a previous relationship with a man who was otherwise very loving, attentive, intelligent and who could make me laugh. He tended to criticize … Continue reading

Remote Control for Your Marriage?

There was a movie out a while back called “Click.” I didn’t see the movie, but I remember the previews. Adam Sandler had a universal remote control that looked like a typical remote, only it worked on everything and everybody in his life. I thought at the time how cool it would be to have such a device. You could hit rewind when you did or said something you regretted later, and get an instant “do over.” You could hit fast forward when life is going crazy and you need a break. Pausing or going to slow motion during good … Continue reading

Setting Bad Habits

Studies show parents who use TV as a baby minder and tool to keep young children occupied could be endangering their future health. Too often parents are busy and so sit even really little children in front of the TV or to watch a DVD. According to a recent study, doing this endangers their health not just as young children but sets up poor health habits and creates school adjustment problems. Children who are used to being in front of the TV have less capacity for classroom involvement, math and other subjects. A young male teacher I know has found … Continue reading
