The Sugar Rush Cometh

It’s Halloween in spring; otherwise known as Easter. Only, instead of going door-to-door to collect sweet treats, kids run around like decapitated chickens hunting for plastic eggs filled with chocolate goodness under bushes, in trees and behind rocks. If parents are lucky, their children will actually make it back to the hunt’s home base with at least a few pieces of uneaten candy to show for their efforts.  The unlucky moms and dads are left to pluck their kids from wherever it is they decide to plant their tiny tushes mid-hunt and picnic from a basket bulging with marshmallow chicks, … Continue reading

Moving Your Job from the Office to the Home

There are some people who work outside the home and love their jobs. But they wouldn’t mind moving it from the office 30 minutes away to the comforts and convenience of their own home. In fact, they may believe that they would be more efficient this way. Is it possible that you could sell your boss on the idea? You just might be able to but before you decide to bring it up, consider some of the following things. First, how long have you been working for the company? If you have been working there for less than a year, … Continue reading

One More Place to Find Freelance Work

Many of us probably check Craigslist when we want to see whether something that we want is available used for a good price from someone who lives nearby. Of course, there are many other ways that people use Craigslist besides buying and selling stuff. Today, I learned that freelance writers can actually use Craigslist to find work. Of course, like any place where freelance jobs are posted, writers must be cautious in responding to Craigslist ads in order to protect themselves from scams and people who are trying to get quality work without paying a quality price. Craigslist is such … Continue reading

Too Attached

Break ups are never easy, even if you know it is right. There are still emotional ties to that person for not only you, but for your children as well. In many ways it can feel like going through a divorce all over again. It is normal for you and your children to feel many of the same feelings of grief and abandonment that you did when you first got divorced. It can be discouraging for you and devastating for your children. Children form attachments quickly and easily. If you begin dating someone be aware of the relationship your children … Continue reading

Our Own Unique Languages

Every person has their own unique language. It comes from the way they were raised, books they’ve read, experiences they’ve had—everything influences the way they see the world around them, and they will have their own ways of expressing their thoughts, feelings, and desires. When you are in a relationship with someone, you’ll find the greatest happiness of success in your relationship if you learn to speak their language, and if they learn to speak yours. If something goes wrong with your current relationship and you find yourself in another down the road, you will need to learn that person’s … Continue reading

Becoming a Product Reviewer, Part 1

I am constantly being asked how I have the ability to review products for my blog. I have reviewed for Dyson, Holey Donuts, Tupperware, Snugli, Evenflo, Christian Liberty Press, Vistaprint, Sensible Portions, Mindware, Mabel’s Labels, Carolina Pad, and host of small businesses and more than I can think of to mention. Reviewing products is fun and often beneficial to your readers and your family. The first thing you must know before entering into this field is honesty, credibility and experience rule. These aspects are intertwined since the honest product reviewer gains credibility which will garner a closer relationship with PR … Continue reading

The Right Place for Romance

Last weekend in Sydney one man was in the right place looking for romance, or was he? The man among 250 women was Daniel Scarparolo, who was attending the Romance Writers of Australia Conference. From Perth this young man is writing a romance novel – his first. In a time when some publishers have gone to the wall or merged and sales are reputedly down, romance novels are flourishing. In USA sales of romance fiction were $1.37 billion in 2008. In England and Australia sales are also high. This is despite a gloomy economy. What is the big attraction? Is … Continue reading

Drop From the Marriage Vocabulary

There are some things you never want to say to your spouse, because they are the type of things that can have serious effects. Three little words that should be dropped from the marriage vocabulary are, ‘never,’ ‘always,’ and ‘only.’ Imagine how your spouse feels if you tell them, ‘you never say the right things,’ or ‘you never do what I want.’ Now I’m sure if you thought about it long enough you’d realize what you mean is right at this moment you are not saying or doing what I want you to. If you tell them they never say … Continue reading

The Food Plan: Organizing a Year of Sustainable Food

I am known as something of an organizational nutcase. This is fine by me. I like being a resource person. When my daughter was a baby, I decided that we needed both a financial and a sustainable overhaul of our food sources. I wanted to be able to eat healthy, organic, and local food, and I wanted to do it on a limited budget. At the time I was not working, and things were quite tight. I’m sure that many of you can relate. Today, I have personal connections with a number of local farms and farmers, and I am … Continue reading
