When the Food on the Box Doesn’t Look Like the Food in the Box

Those glossy photos of food on their boxes can sometimes mean the difference between purchasing the product and leaving it behind on the shelf. Confronted with an image of a fluffy cream-filled cake or a soup that is steam and filled with chunky vegetables, we instinctively want to enjoy it. That usually means purchasing the product, taking it home and maybe heating it or cooking it first. Unfortunately, somewhere between taking it out of the box and actually eating it, we may be left with a nasty surprise. The actual food looks not much like the picture we were given … Continue reading

Does Your Spouse Get Your Time?

One of the things couples fail to realize is that many marriage problems stem from a lack of time. You see, it takes quality time to nurture a relationship. If you are spending more time at your job or with your kids, then your marriage is bound to suffer. Now don’t get me wrong, different seasons in life require more attention than others. For instance, when my children were young they naturally required more of my time and attention. But even then, it didn’t necessarily mean my husband only deserved the leftovers. Time can’t always be measured in quantity. It … Continue reading

Wyoming’s Medicaid Program is Called Equality Care

Wyoming, like all other states, has a Medicaid program. Some states simply refer to the program as Medicaid, and others attached a unique name to it. In Wyoming, the Medicaid program is called EqualityCare. Medicaid is a public, or government run, form of health insurance. It is designed to help people who are low-income, and who cannot afford to purchase a private health insurance plan, to find affordable health insurance coverage. In Wyoming, the Medicaid program is also called EqualityCare. It is administered through the Wyoming Department of Health. Their website says “Welcome to Medicaid”. Under that header, it says: … Continue reading

What Type of Health Insurance Does Your Child Have?

A recent study finds that children who are covered by a private insurance plan get more care in the emergency room than do kids who are covered by a public form of health insurance, or who are uninsured. What type of health insurance coverage does your child have? In September of 2011, a survey was done that included over 100 doctors who worked in emergency departments. The survey was conducted by a group called Truth on Call for msnbc.com. Out of the 100 doctors in the survey, 84 of them said that they had given (or would give) extra attention … Continue reading

No Time to Exercise?

I’ve never been particularly good about exercising. Before I had Logan, I had never really needed to. I naturally had a very good metabolism and could pretty much eat whatever I wanted and never gain weight. How would it be, right? Unfortunately, pregnancy changed things a bit and I no longer have the luxury of eating a pound of chocolate without consequence. Logan is almost four years old and I still fight with the baby pouch almost daily. I know exercising would help, but as a single parent, who has time to exercise, right? My to-do list is a mile … Continue reading

Does Budgeting Actually Cost You More Money?

Do you have a budget? Everyone says it is the best way to take control of your spending. Once you have spent your allotted amount for food, or gas, you’re done. Unfortunately it doesn’t always work like that. I read a study recently that said that people who have a budget can spend as much as 50% more than they were planning. This is said to be because budgeting starts in your mind. You are thinking constantly about what you can and cannot spend and that is what causes you to spend more. Many people who say they have a … Continue reading

Finding More Time To Work

Being a home – based professional gives me the flexibility to work anytime, anywhere. Of course, for me, any time means any time that my son is napping, sleeping, or in the care of my husband or another loving relative. Anywhere does mean just that, though. Today I thought it might be fun to talk about some of the places that I have taken my trusty laptop in the interest of getting work done when the opportunity presents itself. Why today? Well, today I am sitting in the waiting room of the phlebotomy lab at a hospital an hour away … Continue reading

Marital Bliss Doesn’t Make a Marriage Work

Marital bliss…it is a common feeling experienced by newlyweds and one that seems to deteriorate with time. We tend to view this as a bad thing but I would like to challenge that. Marital bliss is romantic and all but there comes a point in your marriage when you have to learn how to live. The reality of life is that not everyday will be magical. There are bills to be paid, long days to get through, children to raise, pressures to deal with and the list goes on. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy marriage while dealing with all … Continue reading

Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Snake Infestation?

A family in Idaho bought a house for an unexpectedly low price. They soon discovered the reason behind the discounted price. The home was infested with snakes! It made me wonder if there was any kind of insurance that could have helped this unfortunate family. Ben and Amber Sessions (and their two young children), bought what they thought was their dream home. It had five bedrooms, was in the rural countryside, and was a price they could afford. They ended up paying just $180,000 for the home. Amber was pregnant with the couple’s third child at the time, and it … Continue reading

What Eating for Two Really Means

Food is huge! Pregnant women are especially at risk for incorrect or misinformed advice about how much they should be eating. Many expectant mothers are given the impression that they should eat twice as much or whatever they feel like eating. While I was pregnant with our son people would make comments like, “I’m so jealous, you can eat whatever you want” or “You’re eating for two so go ahead take twice as much (insert food here)” This notion is not only misleading to the changes a pregnant woman should make to her diet (if she’s not already eating healthy), … Continue reading
