A Most Uncomfortable Wedding

We’re much happier at other people’s weddings My husband and I didn’t really enjoy our wedding. Everything went just the way it was supposed to and everyone had a good time. But the only way Jon and I might have felt comfortable during the proceedings would have been if we could have just signed a piece of paper in front of a justice of the peace. We experienced the usual wedding jitters beforehand, but that discomfort continued throughout the ceremony and into the photography session afterwards. Once we moved onto the reception our feelings calmed a bit, but still it’s … Continue reading

My Wedding Night

We were finally married and because we did not have a big reception we had a great dinner with all the friends and family that did come to share that wonderful day with us. My mother, sister and one of my friends came down to Texas from Massachusetts to share in our wedding. It was great to see them so we wanted to include them in our wedding night party. This was their first trip to Texas so we wanted to do the tourist things we went to a country bar in Fort Worth called Billy Bob’s. It was fun … Continue reading

My Wedding My Way

The closer our wedding got the worst the tension with the future in-laws got. I wanted the traditional wedding things like a reception with dancing, I wanted the garter toss I wanted it all. OK so I only had a few people that I knew that I invited but heck it was my wedding shouldn’t I get what I want? Well the answer to that is apparently NOPE. I was told rather bluntly that the garter toss was trashy, if I had dancing or alcohol at my wedding most of my future in-laws would not come, the pastor who was … Continue reading

My Wedding My Rules

So when you were a little girl did you imagine planning your wedding? I never really did, I was not one of those girls who ran around with a pillowcase for a veil and dream of the day that my Knight in Shining armor came riding up on his horse to swoop me away to his castle. That was just a fairy tale and I wanted no part of it. My father passed away from cancer eight years before I decided to get married. I would not have my Dad to walk me down the aisle and give me a … Continue reading

Why Sean “Diddy” Combs Might Not Get His Dream Wedding

Diddy. P Diddy. Puff. Puff Daddy. Puffy. I still don’t know what rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is calling himself these days, though I can think of a few names that might suit him (only with this being a family-friendly site I will refrain from making any of them public). Look, I really don’t try to figure out what goes on in the minds of Hollywood’s rich and famous (in addition to not having the time to do so I simply don’t have the desire), but every once in a while a celebrity will make a public statement that forces me … Continue reading

Wedding Day Gift Exchange Between Bride and Groom

There has been a pretty hot thread in the marriage forum where a lady is asking what she should get her future husband on their wedding day. I have not looked into any formal rules or practices on the subject. One reader commented that the gift was to be given at rehearsal dinner. I had always thought that the gift was to be given on the wedding day. I also have assumed that the gift is not to be personally delivered but left in the room or delivered by another person. I think that the gift should be something personal. … Continue reading

Celebrate Mom

Mom relaxing on vacation. Mom making her famous mac and cheese. Mom planting petunias. Mom hugging it out with family and friends. Gather ye mom-themed photos as you may for you don’t have much time to arrange them into a special layout for Mother’s Day. Regardless of your crafting capabilities, you can’t go wrong putting together a memory-filled page design for mom on her special day. Really. Think about it; you could give the woman a rock or a piece of lint and she’d still smile graciously and assure you that “it’s the thought that counts.” To make the project … Continue reading

Quote Me

Journaling is a feature of scrapbooking that some crafters shy away from due to lack of inspiration. In my opinion, you shouldn’t let a little writer’s block prevent you from sharing your thoughts on a particular photo, memento or experience. What’s more, there are no rules in scrapbooking that prohibit you from using words made famous by other people. Inspirational words, whether they are in the form of poems, song lyrics, or well-known quotes, can easily be incorporated into a scrapbook layout. One of the simplest ways to add them to your journaling block is to purchase products that come … Continue reading

Does Kate Middleton Have Jewish Heritage?

The internet is an excellent place for rumors, misunderstood facts, and flat out lies to spread exponentially. There have been some people questioning whether or not Kate Middleton had Jewish heritage. How much can you really determine from the surnames of a person’s ancestors? Kate Middleton is the woman whom Prince William married in a huge wedding ceremony earlier this year. She was a commoner, and her family didn’t have a coat of arms until shortly before the Royal Wedding was scheduled. After Prince William and Kate Middleton got married, the couple was given several new titles. She became Her … Continue reading

Genealogy and Family Ghost Stories

Occasionally, your genealogy research will reveal a “skeleton” in the family closet. Sometimes, if you are lucky, your genealogy research can uncover a family ghost story. It is things like these that make genealogy so interesting! Part of the fun in documenting a family ghost story is discovering clues of it’s veracity. Just make sure you are recording it the right way. It is not unheard of for a family to hide, or to stop talking about, a family member that caused a scandal. Perhaps a baby was born “out of wedlock”, or maybe an ancestor suffered from a mental … Continue reading
