My Favorite Attractions: Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

I’ve been back to the Magic Kingdom several times over the last 20 or so years. I enjoyed many of the attractions both as a child, a teenager, a young single adult, a newly married wife and on our last trip, a mother of a very eager and excited 4 year old. Over those many visits, I’ve put together a list of ten must see attractions at the Magic Kingdom, which ranks as my favorite of the different theme parks available for visiting during our periodic sojourns to Orlando, Florida. In no particular order, here are my favorite attractions at … Continue reading

More Fiction for Summer Reading

In a recent blog, And Now for Something Completely Frivolous, I named some Danielle Steel novels that had adoption-related themes. Steel also has an entire novel devoted to infertility and adoption. Mixed Blessings begins with three weddings on the same day, and follows these couples through the early years of their marriages. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away, but here are some characters you will meet. — A woman in her forties who has adult stepchildren and never thought she wanted babies of her own, suddenly finds herself rethinking that decision. Her new husband, a … Continue reading

Meghan McCain Follows in Jenna Bush’s Footsteps

Her father has yet to secure the job presently held by George W. Bush (though he’s gunning for it), but that’s not stopping Meghan McCain from trying to emulate current first daughter Jenna Bush. Meghan McCain, the daughter of Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain just announced that like Jenna Bush she is author material and will be writing a children’s book. “I am truly excited about the opportunity to write a children’s book about my father, who is not only a fantastic dad, but also a great American,” the 23-year-old said in a statement earlier this week. Meghan McCain’s … Continue reading

5 Great Reasons to Take a Disney Cruise

We’re a huge lover of all things Disney, heck, we were married at Disney, but until recently I never thought of going on a Disney Cruise. Initially, my resistance to the idea of a Disney Cruise was the expense of it versus just going to the parks themselves. After all, as my daughter summed up, Disney World has lots and lots of rides – a cruise has just a boat. Not Just a Boat A Disney Cruise is not just a boat. While the cost may be expensive, there are some great deals out there for 3 day cruises that … Continue reading

Musings on an 18th Birthday

My eldest child turns 18 today. It is a strange, momentous occasion for the both of us. Last night when I was talking to her I said, “It’s not every day that a person turns 18!” and she countered with, “Well, in fact it IS everyday that people turn 18.” Of course I meant that it was not every day that SHE turned 18 or that one of my children turned 18, but she had a bit more of a global perspective on things. Regardless, neither one of us can ignore that this one is a very big deal. When … Continue reading
