More about His Unhappiness

Previously I began discussing how I have heard of many men commenting that they were unhappy in their marriage for a long time before they ever decided to take action and have an affair or get a divorce. In many cases their deep unhappiness is often not known by others.

In that same article I talked about how most women cannot go unnoticeably unhappy for any long length of time. Women are much more expressive with their feelings than men. They typically are more verbal about their feelings and give fewer little hints about what they feel.

Men on the other hand are more passive and private when it comes to how they feel. Take for example when a man and a woman both have a bad day at work. Most women will come in and spill the day's details to their husbands. They will feel vulnerable and look to their husbands for caring and comfort. Men do not typically share this same action. They will come home in a bad mood and often talk less and stay to themselves. They usually do not want to discuss the day as soon as they walk in the door. They need a wind down period to quietly release the tension that they have experienced.

One major difference in the two situations above is how each partner responds to the other. When the woman comes home the man has no doubt what she is feeling and why. She has expressed herself to him openly. However when it is the man that comes home, the woman may read something different from his actions. She likely will become upset and offended at his stand offish attitude and need to be by himself for a moment without discussing the day. She may interpret his actions as a problem in their relationship or as a result of him having a bad attitude toward the family.
