Recession Benefitting Your Marriage: Quality Together Time

The other day I got to thinking about an article I wrote earlier this year where I wondered if recession might actually benefit our marriages. I had visions of turning the concept into a mini-series. Alas, so far I only offered suggestions on ways to recession-proof your marriage with dinner. But recently I was reminded about this forsaken series of articles I’d planned to write. Thanks to our trip to Alaska, we’ve been trying to conserve resources. Therefore, more and more I’ve been considering ways Wayne and I could spend quality time together, be active and have fun, yet not … Continue reading

Brad and Barack Cousins

Just call them the family ties that bind… and gag. It’s the headline that has tongues wagging across political lines. According to a renowned genealogical organization, actor Brad Pitt and presidential candidate Barack Obama are related. And that’s not all, researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society say they can also prove that Pitt’s partner Angelina Jolie is a distant cousin of Obama’s fellow presidential hopeful Hilary Clinton. According to genealogy experts, Pitt and Jolie are both ninth cousins of the candidates. But Clinton’s famous ties don’t stop there. Researchers say the former first lady is also related to … Continue reading

Thoughts on Political Scandals and the Marriages They Rock

The scandal of New York’s Governor Eliot Spitzer makes perfect fodder for the Marriage blog, doesn’t it? There’s so much to contemplate, so many dynamics to consider. Standing by a Man Who’s Done Them Wrong In a previous article I wrote how I watched Dina Matos on Today talk about her experience being in the same shoes as Eliot Spitzer’s wife, Silda, found herself in recently. In Matos’s case, she stood by her husband’s side when he admitted to having sexual relations with another man. There’s no telling why Silda chose to stand by her husband. They’ve been married over … Continue reading

Mixing Politics and Marriage

What a crazy race for the Presidency we’ve got going on with Election ’08, eh? This election more than ever it seems I’m noticing the wives and pondering the dynamics that dwell within certain households. For instance… The Clintons Hilary Clinton’s first to mind for a wife it’s impossible not to notice in this election. Hers might be the most unique situation of the race. (Heck, of many races in a long time.) It certainly is one of the most talked about, analyzed, and poked fun at. Never before has the wife of a former president been a candidate herself. … Continue reading

Presidential Smackdown

Now here’s a wrestling match I have a feeling many Americans would pay to view: Barack Obama vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton vs. John McCain. Unfortunately, the closest most of us will likely get to seeing a presidential smackdown is a rerun of last night’s war of words between the candidates on World Wrestling Entertainment’s live “Monday Night Raw.” The ultra-hyped “smackdown” turned out to be more of a stumping with each candidate delivering a wrestling-themed verbal attack. The taped messages appeared on USA network’s most popular primetime show in advance of tonight’s Pennsylvania primary. “Tonight, in honor of the WWE, … Continue reading

Dumbest Celebrity Quotes…Ever!

As you probably can tell, I love celebrities. In my mind, they are superhuman. They wake up looking beautiful (yes, deep down I know they wake up looking shabby just like I do), they are always taller than they really are, and they are always intelligent. Well, that is until they open their mouths. Here are a few of the dumbest quotes ever uttered out of a celeb mouth: Blondes will be blondes, even if they are fake: Britney Spears – “I get to go overseas place, like Canada” Jessica Simpson – “Is this chicken what I have, or is … Continue reading

A Wife’s Public Embarrassment: Dina Matos Sympathizes with Silda Spitzer’s Plight

Yesterday’s top news story was the deep do-do New York Governor Eliot Spitzer found himself in after he was linked to a prostitution ring. Standing there by his side when he addressed the media was his wife, Silda. This morning on Today, Matt Lauer interviewed another woman who was in Silda’s spot four years ago: Dina Matos, wife of former New Jersey Governor James McGreevy who admitted to having an affair with another man. Just as Silda had stood by her husband’s side during his press conference, so did Dina. Just as the hearts of others went out to her … Continue reading
