What Does Romance Mean to You?

What is your idea of romance? Does it mean passion or sensuousness or do you think of it more in terms of thoughtful expressions of love? Some people relate romance to sexual experiences, like the torrid, swept away relationships described in dime store romance novels. That isn’t my idea of romance. For me, romance means thoughtfulness. It is the way we show each other the depths of our love and passion by showing how well we know the other person and doing special things for one another that no one else would think to do. It is personal gestures, not … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for February 10-February 16

Good morning! It’s been a bit crazy around here the last week or so I’m gearing up for a surgery in just a week. I’ll be a bit scarce here and there, but you will be in excellent hands with Sherry. So while I may hope you miss me some, I don’t intend for you to miss me for long. But that’s all for next week, for now, let’s look at the week we just finished off. This was a big week for many of us, celebrating Valentine’s Day and World Marriage Day all in one week! Saturday, February 10 … Continue reading

Memorable Moments: Romance in the Air

Do you like to reminisce with your spouse about those special moments the two of you have shared together? Heather shared some of her “Hidden Treasure” moments, and I’m going to share my favorite romantic moment. We hope you will tell us about some of your best moments and take some time to relive them with your spouses. One of the most romantic moments my husband and I shared was on the way home from a date. It really wasn’t much of a date, because I ended up working later than planned. He’d met me there so we could go … Continue reading

“Your” Song: Significant in So Many Ways

Wayne and I’s song is “I Melt With You” by Modern English. We actually heard them in person in 1986. They were performing in concert at the University of Denver. Vague Memories I wish I remembered if I actually heard them play the song. I don’t. I vaguely remember us attending the concert. Part of it. That was the night Wayne and I ditched the group we always ran around with to go spend time together, alone, for the very first time. (Before that we were always with our friends doing stuff. That night changed everything. After that we were … Continue reading

Amazing Love Songs: “Elephant Love Medley”

Lately I have been listening to the Moulin Rouge soundtrack over and over and over. (Wayne says I should add a few hundred more “over’s” in there to be truly accurate.) To be super specific, it would be more correct to say I listen to it over and over and over when I’m in the car. (At home I’ve been listening to something else. My infatuation with Pandora’s been replaced by the Dangerous Beauty soundtrack.) I can’t help myself. No, it’s not the newest movie soundtrack release. (Neither of them are.) Moulin Rouge’s soundtrack has been out a few years … Continue reading

Letters of Love: My Best Friend

There are moments in our lives when we feel that we may be living in a soap opera and honestly, soap operas while exaggerations in some ways do draw their storylines and their story power from real life and real relationships. Today’s letter is an interesting twist on a dedication and a valentine, it answers the question of what do you do when you fall in love with your best friend’s lady and how that can affect all of your relationships. My Best Friend I’m not sure if you’ll print this and honestly, I don’t even know if I am … Continue reading
