Marrying Your High School Sweetheart

As those of you who read my introduction to the marriage section know, I married my high school sweetheart. We began dating when I was only fifteen. We dated throughout high school with a few break-ups along the way. We married after graduating from college. I have never been in a true lengthy relationship with any other person than my husband. I know several other couples with this same situation. If … Continue reading

While I was watching Sarah Palin’s speech during the Republican National Convention last night, I found it interesting to learn she married her high school sweetheart. It made me think that might make a fun blog: profiling the marriages of the 2008 Democratic and Republican presidential and vice presidential nominees. Barack and Michelle Obama They first met in 1989 when Barack interned at a law firm where Michelle worked. The Romance of Class Reunions

As hard to believe as it is, this coming weekend the East High Angels Class of 1988, of which I belong, will get together to celebrate our 20th high school reunion. The cool thing is I don’t have to go to know. As so many things are these days, there’s a list of people who’ve registered for the reunion online. They’re Married? Married to a Ghost Hunter: My Interview with Mrs. Hawes – The Questions

In Making Marriages Last: What’s It Going to Take? My Interview with Mrs. Hawes I explained about my idea to accentuate the positive by showing examples of long-term committed relationships that are working. One marriage veteran, as I’m calling people in such relationships, who agreed to answer some questions was Mrs. Hawes, wife of Jason Hawes, one of the founders of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) and one of the stars of Ghost Hunters. Requesting the Interview Mrs. Hawes is about as modest as they come. When I asked if she’d be game to be interviewed for Families.com’s Marriage Blog, … Continue reading

We talked about being over 50 and enjoying dating yesterday, but do you ever wonder if you are too old to get married? I’ve seen plenty of people over the age of 50 discover love, companionship and even marriage for the first time and for some, the second time. These couples may meet for the first time at a church, a social gathering, on a cruise or just in the course of their everyday lives. “Will You Marry Me?” A Special Kind of Love

It isn’t often known that individuals with Down Syndrome can live long lives, many well into their fifties, sixties, and beyond. That means that you’re likely to see people with DS out in the work force, living on their own, and even marrying. Medical advances and high-quality care has improved life expectancy and the quality of life for these kids. In fact, 80 percent of DS children will live beyond the age of fifty-five. This is exciting, and yet a … Continue reading
