What is Marriage Coming To?

We talk about marriage in the world like it’s a commodity. Marriage isn’t a gallon of milk, a bottle of wine or a brand new pair of shoes. We don’t get marriage on sale when it’s been marked down 40% and we don’t find it advertised in the newspaper. Well, maybe we do advertise it in the newspaper and maybe we do look at it like a commodity. There are a number of services available that match up individuals who are looking for marriage or a long-term relationship. Surprise Babies: Heather’s Story

This month I’m talking about surprise babies. I’ve been looking forward to sharing with you the story of one special little girl named Lillian Rose, who surprised her parents and their family with her miraculous debut. Her story begins long before she was born in 2002, when Heather and Jeremy met while working together at a local tool store. The high school sweethearts started dating two years later. On August 6, 2006, they tied the knot. About three months after they got married, they decided to start a family, but it wasn’t long before Heather realized things weren’t going to … Continue reading

Limits on Embryo Transfer?

The recent news of the birth of octuplets has brought the debate about embryo transfer back into the spotlight. Higher order multiples usually result from IVF treatments involving the transfer of many embryos. In most cases, all transferred embryos don’t implant. However, in some cases all do implant successfully, resulting in a higher order multiple pregnancy. Infertility clinics vary widely in the United States regarding the number of embryos transferred during one IVF cycle. The logic behind implanting a larger number of embryos is to improve the success rates for the clinic. Since many embryos will not successfully implant, there … Continue reading

Will This Couple Stay Together?

When we go to a wedding or hear about an engagement, we all wonder will they make it? Will that couple stay together? We’ll think about all the things they’ve done together and all the things they’ve shared and we think about it. We can’t help it, especially those of us who have grown up seeing our parents, parents of our friends divorcing. I, myself, grew up raised by a single mother and my grandmother. My grandfather died before I was born and I never knew my father. A study was discussed recently in Psychology Today that found many a … Continue reading
