Is Justin Bieber Off the Market?

Sorry young girls and ladies, but it looks like Justin Bieber is in love. Apparently the relationship between him and Selena Gomez is becoming quite serious…he may end up being completely off the market soon. Justin Bieber recently shared that there is more to Selena than just her “hotness.” One of the things he mentioned was her strong family values. But apparently they recently shared a hotel room together in Brazil. Hmmm…not sure how this ties in with strong family values but maybe I am thinking in a whole different ballpark. Keep in mind that Justin is only 17 years … Continue reading

He’s Got Her Wrapped Around His Little Finger!

Chase has been dating Amy, a 28 year old single mother, for over a year. Things are getting serious; they’ve even been batting around the “M” word. She is attractive, kind, funny, considerate, and they both love to fish and camp. In a nutshell, she’s everything he’s been looking for in a life partner…except for one little thing… a twenty-eight pound, 3 year old little thing, named Marcus. “Now don’t get me wrong, he’s really cute and everything” admits Chase, “but she jumps every time he cries! And I mean every time! He has totally got her wrapped around his … Continue reading

Are You The Same As You Were Before Marriage?

I only caught Part 2 of the Oprah “Why Men Cheat” controversy, but it’s sparking yet another blog. But instead of discussing why men cheat or how to affair-proof marriage, this time I’m going to talk about something else that was brought up as part of all this: behaving differently once married versus how you behaved prior to marriage. Behaviors During the show, Oprah defended M. Gary Neuman’s assessment that it made sense the husbands strayed because they weren’t getting something from their wives. Not that she was wagging her finger and saying, “Shame on you, you neglectful wives.” Quite … Continue reading

While Courtney has been addressing engagement and rings this week, I have taken a turn toward discussing dating and meeting that special someone. I think that this week there is an article that everyone can enjoy! Check below for details. Monday, November 12 Shopping for Engagement Rings: Go With or Be Surprised? In this article, Courtney weighs options between going and picking out your own engagement ring or letting your mate take charge. Do You Tell Your Husband When Another Man Hits on You? It can be flattering when another man finds you attractive. However, do you let your husband … Continue reading

Today’s Dating Emasculates Men

Normally I watch the Today Show as I eat breakfast in the mornings, but today Providence saw fit I should flip over to CBS’s The Early Show. It was right before Julie Chen started interviewing April Beyer, a Relationship Coach and Matchmaker. Can We Ask a Man Out? I didn’t exactly care for the word choice Chen used when she was starting off the interview. “Can we ask a man out? Can we pay?” Duh! Of course we “can.” We can do anything we want. The better question, and what I think she was probably trying to get at, would … Continue reading

If I’m Not Partnered, Why Don’t I Feel Single?

I can easily refer to myself as a single parent, but I have a hard time thinking of myself as a single person. I’ve talked to some other single parents who have confessed to the same feeling. Partly, I think it is because being uncoupled or un-partnered as an older person with children feels a great deal different than being young and single, or not having any dependents or other people with whom we are sharing our lives. I may check “single” or “divorced” when I fill out forms, but I really feel more like the “head of the household…” … Continue reading

Clandestine Marriage & Bigamy

When we talked about What Are Secret Marriages? yesterday, Beth McHugh asked a fantastic question, one that I found I really wasn’t prepared to answer. So I went back to work on my research and now I have some answers to her question Heather, did you notice in your research whether there is any record outside of a judge’s secret box? If you wanted to commit bigamy, this sounds like a foolproof way! Secret Marriages In 1972, Time Magazine published an article on secret love in California. Like Beth asked yesterday, they were concerned with the dangerous liaisons that could … Continue reading

Marriage Debates: Wyoming Tackles Two Tough Issues

This week, Wyoming’s lawmakers will address two of the toughest issues in politics today, or at least two that tend to generate a great deal of emotion and controversy. State Representative Bob Brechtel (R), and Senator Gerald Geis (R) are in for some heated debate and confrontations. The House Judiciary Committee has endorsed Representative Brechtel’s bill. The Senate Judiciary Committee has endorsed Senator Geis’s bill. Both are slated for debate on the respective floors throughout this week, which promises to bring both those that support and those that oppose these bills to the state Capitol to be heard. Brechtel’s bill … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review – November 4 –10

It’s been a busy and exciting week here in the Marriage blog. There was a national election on Tuesday that saw 7 states accept constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage, while one state – Arizona said no to that ban. If you don’t read my fitness blog, you may not have known that I also quit smoking this week and today marks Day 4 heading into Day 5 and I’ll be writing about how great my spouse has been in supporting this effort next week. In the meanwhile, if you missed any of our key stories this week, here is … Continue reading

Marriage Means No More Dating Others (or Does it?)

Why do people bother getting married if they are still interested in dating others? Please clue me in. I’m one of those fuddy-duddy, conservative, traditional people who thinks that vows actually mean something. Granted, I generally defer to a position of “to each his own” – if no one else is affected. Yet, when you find married people on dating sites, saying things like “married but still looking,” I think it’s a little much. I was looking around for information on dating sites to write about when I came across some of these ads. I’m not going to link to … Continue reading
