Mixing Politics and Marriage

What a crazy race for the Presidency we’ve got going on with Election ’08, eh? This election more than ever it seems I’m noticing the wives and pondering the dynamics that dwell within certain households. For instance… The Clintons Hilary Clinton’s first to mind for a wife it’s impossible not to notice in this election. Hers might be the most unique situation of the race. (Heck, of many races in a long time.) It certainly is one of the most talked about, analyzed, and poked fun at. Never before has the wife of a former president been a candidate herself. … Continue reading

Politics and Marriage

Let the official presidential election year begin! Tonight’s the Iowa caucuses. After that the focus moves on to New Hampshire where in five days there’ll be another vote on the candidates. From then on we’re in for one heck of a ride. Because no matter what happens along the way or who wins the final election, this voting year is already going down in the record books. How can it not with the first black man running for President as well as a woman? Do You Know Your Spouse’s Political Temperament? Is this your first voting year together as a … Continue reading

Ask a Marriage Blogger: Isn’t Advocating for Gay Marriage Out of Line?

Your recent blog regarding gay marriage made it very clear that you advocate for gay marriage and that anyone who disagrees with that is prejudiced or a bigot. You write about how to take care and protect and strengthen your marriage and then you endorse a lifestyle that attacks marriage and wants to destroy it. Why? Isn’t this a site that promotes traditional family values? How is gay marriage promoting traditional values? Should you be ashamed of giving so much coverage to this issue? These are just two of the notes that I have received in the last week since … Continue reading

Marriage Debates: Here We Go Again

As many of you may be aware, we’ve been following the marriage debate that has been hotly contested throughout the country as same-sex couples and more have sought recognition for their rights to be married. A majority of states have incorporated bans for gay marriage or a definition of marriage being between a man and a woman . California In California the newly elected state Legislature is reintroducing legislation that would allow gay couples to be married in the state of California alongside another piece of legislation that would allow unmarried, heterosexual couples to be registered as domestic partners. It … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review – November 4 –10

It’s been a busy and exciting week here in the Marriage blog. There was a national election on Tuesday that saw 7 states accept constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage, while one state – Arizona said no to that ban. If you don’t read my fitness blog, you may not have known that I also quit smoking this week and today marks Day 4 heading into Day 5 and I’ll be writing about how great my spouse has been in supporting this effort next week. In the meanwhile, if you missed any of our key stories this week, here is … Continue reading

Marriage Debates: Election Round-Up

You knew I’d have something to say here. Yesterday’s election and votes on various measures was considered controversial going in and didn’t fail to deliver as voters made themselves heard on a variety of issues. Three key votes in three different states that I was watching. The first in South Dakota was the ban on virtually all abortions. It was defeated. In Missouri, it was the measure backing stem cell research. It passed. Finally, the voters in Arizona rejected the amendment banning gay marriage. Yes, it looks like the other states might be close to passing those measures, but I’ve … Continue reading

Marriage In The News – Ripple Effect

The New Jersey Supreme Court ruling is already seeing a ripple effect across the country whether it’s mobilizing legislative efforts, political efforts or just the common man as message boards lit up with debates and discussion. One message board I visited yesterday saw 40 responses to a post about the ruling in fewer than 5 minutes. Whether you view marriage as a holy pact between a man and a woman, a religious arrangement or a nuisance that you’d just rather not have to discuss – the country is being galvanized from all quarters. The Ripple Effect In Virginia, backers of … Continue reading

Do You Vote the Same as Your Spouse?

As I alluded to in Politics and Marriage, Wayne and I don’t always agree on candidates. However, once in a while we do. The last presidential election was probably the most united we’ve ever been on any vote. Not so much because we were both gung ho for the same candidate as because we were both passionately against the other. In our years together we’ve learned that we both enjoy politics. Not so much volunteering to help with campaigns, but at least analyzing the issues and candidates. Sometimes we have great debates about our respective ideologies. Other times we’re relatively … Continue reading
