Don’t Judge My Choices Until You Live My Life

Is there anyone who hasn’t heard about the horrific shooting in Colorado? Friday at work it was all anyone could talk about and as fellow blogger pointed out in her blog, Watch Where You Point That Finger, everyone had an opinion about people taking their children to the movies in the first place. Apparently those people have never been single parents. Or maybe they’ve never been any type of parent but I know, as a single parent, sometimes, midnight showings are your best friend. If your kids are young, you hope they will sleep through the movie. As a single … Continue reading

Album Choices

My previous post about purchasing marked down leather scrapbooks may have led you to believe that I don’t care much about the type of albums I use to house my layouts. This could not be further from the truth. The books weren’t cheap or ugly. Rather, they retailed for more than $40 each, but I snagged super savings by shopping at a post-holiday sale and using a coupon for an additional 20 percent off my total purchase. Moreover, I enjoy working with leather albums, as they are extremely functional and durable. Leather scrapbooks are also aesthetically pleasing, and their sleek … Continue reading

Is Working at Home Making You Sedentary?

I never sat down so much in my life then when I started my blog. I started my blog a few years ago during summer break from homeschooling. My kids were very active in the summer with friends, sports and other fun learning opportunities. However, there were times when we spent many lazy summer days at home. The kids would play with friends or each other while I developed a new interest. That interest was blogging. Normally, I enjoyed being active in the summer but growing a blog is hard work. It was work I enjoyed so much that I … Continue reading

Making Better Food Choices

I’m always looking for ways to make sure I have healthier things in the house for Hailey to eat. As a working single mother I’m not always home to make sure she makes good choices. The easiest way to make sure Hailey is eating things that are good for her when I’m not around is to make sure unhealthy items never make it into the house.   Packaged foods in general are rarely healthy, most contain too much salt, sugar or trans fats. Store bought cookies are high in calories and trans fats and loaded with sugar and preservatives. If … Continue reading

Choices

My son and I have been talking a lot about choices lately. A few nights ago we were sitting at the dinner table. Our conversation sounded a little something like this: “Logan, you need to sit down and eat your dinner. You don’t have a choice.” “Yes, I do Mommy. I have agency. I always have a choice!” Pretty deep conversation for a three year old, at least I know he’s been listening! But little Logan was right, in everything we do we do have a choice, however, with every choice we make there is a consequence for that choice. … Continue reading

Decision Making Tips for Business and Personal Choices

It just occurred to me that sometimes, the way that a person conducts himself or herself in his or her business can be quite different from the way that same person conducts himself or herself in his or her personal life. I’m going to be talking about decision making today, and I realized that I have no trouble at all making decisions, even very major decisions, about my home – based businesses. I gather information, weigh my options (briefly and logically), and commit to a course of action. Believe it or not, the decisions that I have trouble making are … Continue reading

Making the Most of All Those Photos

For me, one of the biggest challenges of scrapbooking is trying to squeeze in all of my favorite photos on a single layout. Often, I have to design a two-page layout to accommodate the themed images I want to feature, and even then I am forced to leave out some nice shots. Lately, I have been creating photo collages so I can place more photos on a single page. Whereas I love the way the photo collections look, they are time consuming to make and depending on the size of the photos, you still need to be selective with your … Continue reading

Tough Times, Tough Choices

Many families are feeling the squeeze of tight budgets these days, and the rising prices on essential items like gasoline and food are making tight budgets even tighter by the day. As we find that our dollars are not able to stretch nearly as far as they used to, many of us are confronted with difficult financial choices. While the exact choices that your family faces are sure to be different than those experienced by me or by the people next door, you are not alone in having to make decisions that you never thought that you would have to … Continue reading

Making Choices

It’s very easy for people to sit in judgment on others. We can look at their choices and be critical that they have not made wise decisions. We can look at their marriages and think that they are not doing the right thing. We can look at the way they bring up their children and not think they are going about it the right way. But when it all comes down it, marriage and parenting is about making the decisions that are right for you and your spouse and right for you and your family. Whether they are what your … Continue reading
