Different Kinds of Love

There are many different kinds of love. One is love for country. That is especially relevant today for Australians and New Zealanders, as we remember our Anzacs, and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, sacrificing their lives in war so that we can live in freedom and in peace. There’s family love. We saw a lot of that as hundreds of people gathered at HMAS Cresswell navy base at dawn to remember loved ones who had been killed or injured in war. There were those remembering husbands, fathers, grandfathers, wives and mothers who served in the defense forces. Later in … Continue reading

Show Some Respect

Recently FatherBlogger started a forum topic about the best way for a boy to learn to respect women. I suggested a boy needed the example at home of a father who showed that respect to his wife. But it really goes much deeper than that. Marriage to me is about love certainly, but also respect and loyalty to each other. I am horrified sometimes to hear the way women deride their husbands to other women. Where is the loyalty to the one they are married to? By the same token there are guys who publicly ridicule and sling off about … Continue reading

De-Cluttering Boot Camp: I Can’t Get Rid of that!

If you have been following our de-cluttering boot camp, you should have made some progress going through items box by box, bag by bag or section by section. Some items are obvious keepers, such as the cooking pot you use every day, while others are obviously not keepers, such as last month’s newspaper. Everything you own should do one of the following three things, if not all three: Be useful Be beautiful Make you very happy Inevitably in your de-cluttering process, you will come across items that are none of these things, but you find that you just can’t part … Continue reading

My Favorite Pet Blogs from the Past Year

Below is a list of my favorite articles I wrote during the past year, often with an explanation of what made them memorable. Five Non-Cash Ways to Help Animals/Shelters this Holiday Season: This was my first article to have a comment left on it. Is It Ever Okay to Kick a Dog?: This was my first article to ever get stars. The BMK Fund: This practice is very near and dear to my heart and it was neat to have a platform such as blogging for Families.com to share it on. How to Put Your Shopping Dollars to Work Helping … Continue reading

How Do I Get Closer to My Loved One?

Are you loved? Do you love? I bet you do. After all, you’re reading the marriage blog and whether you are married, have been married or desire to be married – then you are likely familiar with the concept of love and you do love. When we love someone, whether that someone is our husband, our wife, our child, our parents, our siblings or our friends, we want to be close to them. We want to foster that closeness and deepen it, if possible. In my experience, I’ve been very close to some people and that closeness has waxed and … Continue reading

Letters of Love: My Personal Valentine

I’ve been printing these letters for the last fourteen days in honor of Valentine’s, love and caring. I’ve posted letters from military spouses, from couples looking to be engaged and from widows who miss their spouses. I’ve posted letters from widows who’ve found love once again. This has been a terrific project and a great deal of fun for me. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have. My Personal Valentine Dear Scott, I wanted to write you a letter in the same vein as those letters that have been published here over the last few days. … Continue reading

Heads Up Sons & Daughters

Ladies, this is to all the wives and mothers that visit here and read my blog. This is also for you dads and husbands as well. Tomorrow is Father’s Day and if you’re like me, you may be wondering what the fuss is about. Is it another Hallmark holiday? Why are we choosing one day a year much as we do with Mother’s Day to honor the people in our lives we should honor each and every day? Well, aren’t we lucky, I went to do a little research and here’s what I found out about the history of Father’s … Continue reading

Grandmother Bullied on School Bus

Oh the lessons you can learn on a school bus. Lesson #1: Don’t bully an innocent grandmother/bus monitor, and then smirk as someone shoots video of you in the act. Because… Lesson #2: The chances of said video going viral are astronomical and… Lesson #3: The chances of said grandmother having the last laugh are even greater. Just ask Karen Klein. The 68-year-old grandmother from upstate New York has endured plenty of pain in her life, including the death of her beloved husband and the tragic loss of her son to suicide. However, it took a bus full of tweenage … Continue reading
