Looking for a Great Wedding Gift?

When we got married, one of the first things people told us to do was set up for our gift registry. My husband and I were a bit befuddled at the time because we didn't know what to ask for or what to tell others to get us when they asked. After all, I'd never been married before and we were already living together at the time. So we'd set up house more or less. We didn't necessarily need specific household items.

To this end, the following are the top five wedding gift ideas that we put together from the gifts that were given to us:

  • Money - Yes - it's an impersonal gift, but the money gifts we were given we put into a savings account and used towards a first anniversary vacation. Two of the larger money gifts we were given we used to pay for part of our honeymoon. Since we paid for our wedding ourselves and we included transport for a lot of our guests to our wedding destination - the money gifts were really helpful.
  • Wedding Quilt - My husband's aunt made us the most exquisite wedding ring quilt that has been on our bed ever since. As a quilter, I enjoy the craftsmanship that went into the quilt but I also enjoy the blessing and love that went into making this quilt for us.
  • Expensive Items on the Registry - If you are registered or the couple who's wedding you are attending is registered, look for the expensive items they've asked for - chances are they are asking for them because they are not easily affordable. Pick up one of those in conjunction with another guest to split the cost as needed.
  • Upgrade their Wedding Night to a Special Honeymoon Suite - Most couples are already booked for their honeymoon, see if you can get them an upgrade to some special considerations for their wedding night - whether it's having champagne delivered to their room or upgrading the room itself
  • Make them a Wedding Scrapbook - While this is a gift that will take some time to put together and likely won't be given until after the wedding, gathering together photos of the couple from the important moments in their individual and joint lives can be a great gift to give them - the last page and opening pages can be from the wedding itself.

I found an awesome wedding gift website www.ifthegiftfits.com - we registered at macy's and bloomie's, but this site has unique gifts for weddings and shower gifts that you can't find everywhere. Beautiful glass beaded frames, a takeout menu box for all my to go menus, and lots of fun serving pieces. Check it out - I told my friends about www.ifthegiftfits.com and they can go on there and buy us gifts from there. Let me know what you think!
