Father’s Day, 2008

It’s that special time of year again when dads look forward to all the unique and wonderful gifts that they will receive. Everything from ties to power tools is on the menu. One of the best gifts I ever received was a 12-string guitar. I used to joke with my wife all the time about getting one for my anniversary present. My wife and son went in on this together and purchased it online. I tried to think back to what I used to give my dad for Father’s Day. Nothing really stands out in my mind. Today we mostly … Continue reading

The Gift of Time

Today is my 35th birthday and it’s funny, I kept forgetting that it was right around the corner and I had to laugh this morning as my husband is up very early (he doesn’t like early mornings), but his gift to me this year is to run all the errands such as getting the kids to school in the morning, picking them up after school and taking them to all their extra-curricular activities like dance, cheer/tumble and gymnastics. His goal was to give me time. What a precious gift that is! For all the things in the world out there … Continue reading

Good morning! It’s been a bit crazy around here the last week or so I’m gearing up for a surgery in just a week. I’ll be a bit scarce here and there, but you will be in excellent hands with Sherry. So while I may hope you miss me some, I don’t intend for you to miss me for long. But that’s all for next week, for now, let’s look at the week we just finished off. This was a big week for many of us, celebrating Valentine’s Day and World Marriage Day all in one week! Saturday, February 10 … Continue reading

Letters of Love: My Personal Valentine

I’ve been printing these letters for the last fourteen days in honor of Valentine’s, love and caring. I’ve posted letters from military spouses, from couples looking to be engaged and from widows who miss their spouses. I’ve posted letters from widows who’ve found love once again. This has been a terrific project and a great deal of fun for me. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have. My Personal Valentine Dear Scott, I wanted to write you a letter in the same vein as those letters that have been published here over the last few days. … Continue reading

Love Notes: Do You See Cupid in the Stars?

If you read my other blogs, you may be aware of some of the problems I have been experiencing in my life. As I told a friend recently, I already received one reality check this year and last Friday, I received another. Because I don’t need to be told the same thing twice, I’m getting back into the habit of living my life instead of postponing things until there’s a better time or a right time. The time we have is now and it’s time we make the best of it. What Are We Doing for Valentine’s Day? So this … Continue reading

Love Letters: The Legend of Valentine’s

Welcome to our first Love Letters. Love Letters is going to look at the history of romance and love and is another feature of our 14 Days of Romance here in the Marriage Blog. Today’s Love Letters is going to look back at the Legend of Valentine’s Day. Where did it come from and why do we celebrate it? The Legend of Valentine It seems appropriate to begin our great tales of romance with the legend of Valentine. In the United States, February is synonymous with candy, hearts, perfume, flowers and romance. From our smallest children making their very simple … Continue reading

Letters of Love: My Wife, My Best Friend

Today’s letter of love comes from a husband who reads the blog occasionally, but knows that his wife really enjoys checking here everyday to read the articles and more. He decided, rather on the spur of the moment, to write a letter to his wife and he asked if I would publish it today, because it’s her birthday. So here it is and please accept my well-wishes for a very happy birthday. My Wife & My Best Friend Dear Diane, I hope you get to read this the morning it’s published. I’ve asked the blogger putting up these articles to … Continue reading

Writing Great Love Letters

With the “Letters of Love” section that Heather began, I decided it would be fun to ask people what they think is the basis of a great love letter. I asked people I know what they believe are great features of letters they have received, as well as the best features of love letters they’ve written. I’ve combined the answers with my own thoughts, below: Be Yourself and Don’t Try Too Hard I received this response (or similar variations thereof) the most and I happen to agree. Don’t try too hard to make love letters sound like Hallmark cards, just … Continue reading
