Learn and Study Your Partner

by Lyn Newton | More from this Blogger

Every now and then you run across a saying or some advice that seems to stick with you. I did just that not too long ago. While reading up on some relationship issues, I came across a religious sermon about strengthening relationships. For some reason the sermon seemed to hit my heart. It felt as if it were personally written for me. Someone wanted me to read it.

The main point of the sermon was to learn and study the person you are in a relationship with. Known the person. Know what makes him/her happy. Know what gets under his/her skin. Know what makes or breaks his/her day. Know the signals for space and the signals for affection. Be able to read your partner without him/her saying anything at all.

Taking the time to truly understand your partner shows him/her love. Pay attention to his/her moods and needs and wants.

Be considerate of the things that you do and the things that you say. Be careful not to send the wrong message through body language or short tones. If you are busy at work and your partner calls, try explaining how busy you are instead of being short and snubbing your partner's call.

Knowing your partner can create a happy and healthy relationship.

Just learning when it is appropriate to bring up particular discussions with your partner can save a lot of relationship heartache. Know when your partner is ready to handle talking about serious issues and when it is best to let things slide for the moment. Simple things such as timing can save you and your partner from an argument.

Understand that your needs may not always be your partners needs. Just because you are a morning person does not mean that your partner will jump out of bed in a good mood.

Study your partner and show him/her that you are aware of his/her needs and that the needs are a priority.
