Cleaning the Dishwasher

I do a pretty good job keeping up with my schedule in which I deep clean the appliances in my kitchen. Most of us tend to think about the stove and refrigerator. But if you have a dishwasher, this should be added to your list of deep cleaning every three or six months. Think about it this way. It’s an appliance used every day. It cleans dirty dishes. Still not getting the picture? That’s probably because you assume since it is an appliance that cleans, it doesn’t require cleaning. Not true. You might compare it to your teeth. You can … Continue reading

Your Multi Purpose Dishwasher

Most of us can’t imagine living without our dishwashers. When the kitchen is a battle zone, the trusty dishwasher comes to the rescue. Did you know there are things you can do with your dishwasher besides wash dishes? Baseball caps clean up great in the dishwasher, they don’t get bent like they do in the washer, just don’t throw any dishes in with them because the food could get stuck in the fabric. All those little toys and action figures that your toddler is always sticking in his mouth, throw them in a lingerie bag and toss in the dishwasher. … Continue reading

If You Want Something Done Right …

We’ve all heard the adage, “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” It’s so true. No one can live up to our expectations. It’s not that our way is the most superior—it’s just that we want it done that way, and it’s hard not to get irked when you have an idea and you can’t get someone else to catch your vision. Nowhere is this more true than in a home situation. I’m a busy gal and I’m not always able to get the housework done that I would like, and so my husband, wonderful guy that he … Continue reading

Dishwasher Fungus

Today I read a news article about fungus growing in dishwashers. To make it even more disturbing they tested two dishwashers right here in Utah where I live and they both tested positive for fungus. Seems that in a recent study 62% of dishwashers were found to have fungus growing in them, six out of ten seems like quite a lot to me. I spent the rest of the day nervously searching the internet for “fungus in dishwasher” while waiting to get off work so I could go home and check out my fungus ridden dishwasher. Personally I wouldn’t think … Continue reading

How To Load The Dishwasher

Did you know that there’s a right way to load a dishwasher? I know that everyone who owns a dishwasher has a particular way he or she prefers to load the washer. Have you ever read the manual for your dishwasher? I did and discovered that there is a way to load our washer for best results. I appreciate my husband’s help with the dishes and I would never complain, but he doesn’t load it right. I learned from my mom growing up to load the silverware with the handles down so there’s no rust. The manual for my dishwasher, … Continue reading

Dishwashing the Green Way

If you have a dishwasher, you probably love the easy of adding the dishes, putting in the detergent, and letting the dishwasher do all the work for you. But, even using the dishwasher may be harmful to the environment. First of all, it would help if you had an Energy Star dishwasher. This will save on both energy (some use up to 25% less than traditional dishwashers) and water. Don’t put your dishwasher next to your refrigerator if you can help it. The heat generated by your dishwasher will just cause your refrigerator to work harder to keep cooler. Another … Continue reading

Is There a Right Way to Load the Dishwasher?

It seems it’s been eons ago now that Jade sent me a link to an article with the subject line “housework issues.” It directed me to an article entitled “Don’t let the dishwasher ruin your marriage.” It was about a woman who’s given up loading the dishwasher because, as she put it, “No matter how I load it, my husband comes after me and reloads it.” I didn’t have a chance to write about it then. (It was around the time my mom moved in with us.) Also, housework is one of those subjects that seemed to be covered pretty … Continue reading

Today’s list contains at least one chore that most people dread: Cleaning the Oven There’s nothing worse than having the aromas of homemade pie and succulent turkey overtaken by the smell of something burning, so make sure the oven is clean and ready to go. A non-stick, dishwasher-safe, oven liner is a great investment and it will help you avoid this chore in the future. Decorating Okay, now that the oven is shiny and clean, how about something a little more fun, like decorating for Thanksgiving? It doesn’t have … Continue reading
