Touring the City on Less: Food Extravaganza

The summer and fall are great times to tour a fun city. Of course, you want to do it for less. Yesterday I shared the money-saving way to save on transportation around the city. If you missed that post, you can find it here. Today it is all about having a food extravaganza. Part of the fun of visiting a city is all of the great food that you can try. Most cities offer a variety of great food, different fusions and ethnic dishes, traditional and down home fare. It would be a shame to waste this opportunity because of … Continue reading

First Thanksgiving Part II

On thanksgiving day, my daughter awoke from her nap to find herself in an unfamiliar house with lots of unfamiliar faces all around her. She was not a fan of this particular situation. Initially when anyone got too close to her she, she would start bawling and would find the fastest route back to me. Realizing that she was not going to put up with me being in a different room, I took up residence on the living room floor while she played with some toys and her cousin (she was fine with the other baby everyone else was terrifying). … Continue reading

Spice Up Thanksgiving Layouts

Depending on the size and scope of your Thanksgiving Day festivities you could opt to create an entire scrapbook documenting the occasion or simply dedicate a few pages in a holiday-themed memory album. Many beginner scrapbookers select the latter because they don’t know how to fill the space. However, you don’t have to shoot hundreds of photos or go broke purchasing stacks of expensive embellishments to get rid of white space on your layouts. An affordable way to spice up your Thanksgiving layouts is to pepper them with poems that sum up the tone of the holiday. Fortunately, you can … Continue reading

Remembering Forever

When was the last time you looked at your wedding album? Most couples don’t make a habit of pulling out their marriage memory books unless there’s a good reason to do, such as looking to see something specific in a photo or remembering what a guest or member of the wedding party wrote in a speech or toast. Other couples make it a traditional to page through their wedding scrapbook on their anniversary. This is especially true of newly hitched brides and grooms who enjoy taking a trip down memory lane. As couples age, the motivation to thumb through albums … Continue reading

The Second Week Post-Partum Part I

While my first week post-partum was spent taking it easy (to the best of my ability given my “get it done” personality). By the second week I was ready and almost needing to get out of the house. The opportunity presented itself very soon with an invitation to dinner with my husband’s parents and siblings. Leaving the house for the first time to socialize can be a bit intimidating after one has just had a baby but at eight days post partum, I was feeling really good. I have a very small transitional wardrobe from after my son’s birth. One … Continue reading

Working on Thanksgiving – Just a Tiny Bit

There are ten more minutes left of Thanksgiving, so technically I am working on Thanksgiving albeit just a little bit. We hosted Thanksgiving, so even though I had done quite a bit of food preparation and cleaning yesterday there was a lot more to be taken care of today. Fortunately, I had the foresight to take that into account when planning my work schedule. I decided that one hour today (thanks to the odd hours I keep it is really more like early Friday morning) would be a reasonable amount of work to do. As I sit here still stuffed … Continue reading

We Actually Got Approved For Health Insurance!

I honestly thought this day would never come. My husband and I have, officially, been approved for a health insurance policy. It appears to be one that we can afford to pay for, and it includes coverage for dental. The cynic in me thinks that there will be hidden fees that make the policy unaffordable. We will see. Part of me wonders if I am asleep, and actually dreaming this. Could it really be true that we will soon have health insurance coverage? We have been having so much trouble trying to find an affordable health insurance plan that I … Continue reading

Trying Once Again to Get Health Insurance

My husband and I have been trying to find affordable health insurance. It is completely frustrating! There were several months when we gave up even trying to get it. Recently, we started again. The struggle continues! This all started when I lost my job in 2009. I had health insurance from this job that covered both myself and my husband. In the blink of an eye, that was gone. Our first attempt to find health insurance coverage was through COBRA. This was supposed to allow us to extend the health insurance coverage that I’d lost. Unfortunately, the cost of COBRA … Continue reading

Could Your Husband Cope?

Could your husband cope if you were laid up for a while? The impression I get from many women, particularly those around my age group or older, is that their husbands wouldn’t know the first thing about how to cook a meal, do the laundry or do any of the other household chores that need to be done, especially when the wife is laid up. This puts pressure on the wife to keep going, even when she should not because she is too sick. Mick thankfully has done a great job over the last few weeks and given the ongoing … Continue reading

Scrapping Everything

How much is too much when it comes to scrapbooking? I know a dear lady, who, bless her heart, has made layouts that include staples in her pantry and refrigerator. She thought it would be a fun idea to take photos of her family’s favorite snacks and other treats, and then journal about each. Her layout also included sample shopping lists, receipts to show how much she spent or saved (depending on the number of coupons she used during a particular trip to the market) and notes about special meals that were made with the ingredients she had in her … Continue reading
