Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!! Today is one of my most favorite days in the world. It only has competitors from the birthdays of my children and my wedding day. Christmas is about so much more than the gifts that we give and receive today. Christmas all began with the gift of love. The love of a child, the love of a Father, the unselfish love of others. This is a big day for many couples throughout the world. Christmas is always a fun time to spend with the ones that you love. It is a time to be merry and happy. I … Continue reading

Couples and Christmastime Traditions

I’ve been so busy this month “doing” Christmas that whatever spirit I’ve had has been forced so far. But tonight during dinner Elf was on. As Wayne and I sat merrily cracking away on our crab legs (Publix had them on sale…Yum!), one of our little trees winked back at me, and I laughed at Will Ferrell’s antics as Buddy the Elf, I felt the real Christmas spirit finally taking hold. My stress started melting away and I realized I could suddenly breathe a little easier. There’s not much left to do except enjoy the holiday. The last big Christmas … Continue reading

Do You Tell Your Husband How Much You Spend on Gifts?

It is the season for shopping. Everywhere that you look people are buying items and standing in checkout lines. Sale signs and coupons cover the newspapers. Almost every store on every corner can be seen full of shoppers. Customers dash in and out making their purchases. Many of the shoppers in the world are women. Of course most shopping this time of the year is for someone other than yourself. However, women have a tendency not to be able to pass up a good deal. With this, I wonder how much do the husbands of these women truly know about … Continue reading

Shopping the Catalogs: More Romantic Rings

Yesterday I listed a few romantic rings that have caught my eye as I’ve been shopping the catalogs this holiday season. The list was getting a bit long, so I broke it up. Here’s the rest of my picks: From The Danbury Mint Diamond Rapture Ring: Yep, rapture’s an apt name to describe the response someone might give when receiving this ring. Royal Sapphire Ring: With a kind of a crown design to it, it certainly is royally regal. Diamond Swirl Ring: Simple, elegant, and stately. Diamond Promise Ring: Both the name and the design caught my attention. (And made … Continue reading

Shopping the Catalogs: Romantic Rings

I’m not a big jewelry wearer, but I’d like to be. (My problem is I’m not the most graceful person. I usually break or lose it. It’s amazing that, other than one bent prong, in the 12 plus years I’ve had my diamond ring I haven’t managed to destroy it yet.) However, while I’ve been shopping the catalogs for gifts to give, I’ve also been admiring some things my alter ego (the one who knows how to wear jewelry without abusing it) would like. In particular, rings. Below is a list of the ones that caught my eye and stole … Continue reading

Shopping the Catalogs: Pet Lovers Paradise

‘Tis the season when catalogs clutter our mailboxes. Unlike some people who immediately toss them, I shop them. I never know what I might find, and this year I found a ton of cool stuff for pet and animal lovers and owners as well as for pets themselves. I don’t know if it’s because I’m paying more attention this year or if the catalog companies have caught on to our passion for pets. Whatever it is, it does seem like every catalog this year offered a bunch more pet products than ever before. Whether you’re a dog person, cat person, … Continue reading

Christmas a Day Late

Now, some of you may think I am nuts… but I do know some families who practice this tradition. The idea is to have your Christmas after Christmas… usually a couple days later. The advantage is the HUGE savings on Christmas gifts. Retailers know that if it doesn’t get bought before Christmas it may not get bought at all. So, once Christmas is done… the real heavy duty markdowns come. It is almost guaranteed to find at least 50% off the price within the couple days after Christmas on “gifty” items. Now, if having Christmas late is not such a … Continue reading

Who Needs a Husband’s Help Christmas Shopping When There’s the Internet?

Last week I griped about how I’m married to a Scrooge and lamented how I’m responsible for making Christmas happen at our house every year by myself. I guess I was feeling sorry for myself when I wrote those because I was stressed. Most of the time everything’s done by now. Decorations have been hung, gifts have been ordered, and this week cards would have been mailed. But I got sick at Thanksgiving, right when Wayne started his three week sabbatical between jobs so we could travel and spend some time together. So instead of doing Christmas I’ve been either … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for December 3-9

It’s that time of year…the busy time. (Busier than usual anyway.) Find you have limited time to keep up on all the blogs you want to read? That’s what makes Week in Reviews invaluable. They’re your key to staying in tune with what Karri, Heather, and I wrote about last week in the Marriage blog. Monday, December 3 All I Want for Christmas… Since Heather and her family were assaulted with health problems throughout the year, all she wants is to enjoy her work at Families.com without anymore trips to the doctor interrupting it! For Men Who Do Not Wear … Continue reading

Who Does Christmas at Your House?

Yesterday I wrote about how I’m married to a Scrooge and that for any Christmas cheer to be spread in our house it’s up to me to spread it. Wayne doesn’t string lights, wrap garland (or presents), or mess with picking trees. His one and only contribution is getting our fiber optic tree out of the attic. After that I don’t bother asking for any more Christmas assistance because I know all I’ll get is a big bah humbug. I sort of envy those women whose husbands get into the spirit without too much griping. The ones who take the … Continue reading
