The Marriage Blog Week in Review for April 14-20

In case Spring Fever bit you hard and you’ve been out enjoying any nice weather in your area instead of keeping up on Lyn and I’s musings, here’s your handy Week in Review to catch you up on what we wrote about on: Monday, April 14 Already this year I learned what “Love Is” from Families.com members and decided to note some of their secrets and lessons I’ve learned. Because of a book she’s reading and learning from, Lyn wondered where are your priorities? The ones suggested in the book came as a shock to her and she explained why. … Continue reading

Thoughts on Polygamy

With the raid on the polygamist compound in Texas headline news lately, I’ve been thinking about polygamy probably more than I ever have before in my life. The Husbands Watching the news, I’d be led to believe that the husbands in polygamist unions are all abusive, dirty old men who use religion as justification for having sex with young girls. Maybe some of them do. But what about the ones who don’t? What about the ones who have committed themselves to many wives because their religion ordains it and they firmly believe in their doctrines? How do they emotionally and … Continue reading

How Did Your Senators Vote on the Marriage Amendment?

Whether you agree or disagree with a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage is not really the question for this discussion. The main question is do you know how your senators voted? Next, is the question did they vote in a way that represented the will of the people in your state? Both of my senators, Mark Pryor and Blanche Lambert Lincoln cast “nay” votes according to the most recent Senate roll call vote. I found this curious since in 2004 voters in Arkansas overwhelming voted to ban same sex marriage in this state. In fairness, that doesn’t necessarily mean … Continue reading

Would You Want Your Spouse to Remarry?

If something happened to you (God forbid), would you want your spouse to remarry? This issue has been the subject of many jokes and even some rather lengthy discussions for married couples. There are people who absolutely cannot stand the thought of their spouse being married to someone else, even after they’re gone. I’ve heard people joke about coming back to haunt their spouse if he or she remarries, but I’ve also heard people try to make their spouses promise never to remarry. I think it’s more a matter of imagining a mate with another person now than actually not … Continue reading

The Curious Case of Sister-Wives

The other night I stayed up late watching TV because I couldn’t sleep. I ended up tuning into a show called “The Secret Lives of Women.” Apparently the show’s a series and features insight into different aspects of women’s lives. The night I watched the topic was polygamy. I have to admit, other than what I’ve seen from the media, I don’t know much about polygamy. I knew the concept of multiple wives sprung from religious beliefs, but I’ve never understood why any woman would sign up for that type of marriage. (Unless if she was forced into it, like … Continue reading

Marriage Types: Polygamous

My last couple of articles have focused on various marriage types. The first discussed couples who chose to make an even stronger bond by committing through a covenant marriage. The second article took a peek into couples who were previously married and were taking part in their second marriage. Some couples decide to take marriage to a completely new level and by pass most traditional terms and thoughts of a “normal” marriage. These couples choose to marry but not make a physical commitment to one another. In a polygamous marriage, couples are open to dating and physical relations with other … Continue reading

Marriage Debates: Wyoming Tackles Two Tough Issues

This week, Wyoming’s lawmakers will address two of the toughest issues in politics today, or at least two that tend to generate a great deal of emotion and controversy. State Representative Bob Brechtel (R), and Senator Gerald Geis (R) are in for some heated debate and confrontations. The House Judiciary Committee has endorsed Representative Brechtel’s bill. The Senate Judiciary Committee has endorsed Senator Geis’s bill. Both are slated for debate on the respective floors throughout this week, which promises to bring both those that support and those that oppose these bills to the state Capitol to be heard. Brechtel’s bill … Continue reading

Sharing One View on Homosexual Marriage

I have heard people say that homosexual marriage is not hurting anyone, and that those who are gay deserve to be happy having the same rights as heterosexual couples have. I have been very reluctant to write about this because it is such a heated topic. I would just like to share my thoughts on homosexual marriage and why I believe the acceptance of it to be part of the subtle decay of morality which was foretold in the Bible. I do not support gay marriage, the marriage of more than 2 people, marriage to animals, adults marrying children, or … Continue reading
