Helping Your Toddler Become A Problem Solver

Did you know that one of the best tools that you can give your toddler is the ability to solve problems for himself or herself? It can be frustrating to watch your little boy or girl struggle with something like getting his or her shirt on, or finding the right place for the puzzle piece to fit in. Many of us are quick to rush to the rescue, to help our little one “get it right” either to ease his frustration, or to get her out the door in time. If we are able to step back a little bit … Continue reading

Picture Problem

Does this photo look familiar? If you are like me, you likely have a few dozen Fourth of July-themed pictures to place in your summer scrapbook. Whereas I am pleased to have captured so many decent shots of fireworks, family members, friends and other holiday festivities, I am now faced with the challenge of whittling down just a few select images to feature on a single layout. For me, it’s one of the most daunting scrapbooking tasks. When it comes to picking just a handful of photos to include on a page, my indecisiveness rears its ugly head. I have … Continue reading

This is a good one to listen to for parents who will be traveling by plane with their children this … Continue reading

Potty Training Problems Solved!

For most parents the thought of potty training can be a little overwhelming to say the least. It’s hard to know where to start if you’ve never done this before. You may feel as if you have tried everything under the sun and nothing is working. Don’t worry, they will get the hang of it, it just may take a little time. I started potty training Logan when he was about two and a half, but when we got divorced he reverted back to diapers within a week or two. This is normal, but after a month or two I … Continue reading

Problem Food for Pets

We’ve always been able to feed our dogs table scraps thinking we were being kind to them. Now we have discovered feeding pets too many table scraps can be no good. This Christmas we encountered a problem. It seems that the off cuts of ham and pork that were fed to one little pooch ended up giving her a case of constipation. Since we had been encountered this once before with our other dog and it turned into a major drama, we were very quick to react. Of course it happened on a public holiday over the Christmas period when … Continue reading

Confessions of a Foodie Mom: What Does Work?

I’ve whined about my plateau in several of the last blogs. I’ve talked about my problems. (I hope they’ve been some use to somebody, if only to let you know I commiserate with you.) Now I need to consider the recent past as well as previous weight losses and ask myself: What does work? When I was a teenager, I would designate every other week as a “diet” week. No matter what, I wouldn’t eat sweets that week. (My mom, who wanted me to lose weight, still thought I was silly to pass up strawberry pie, given that it was … Continue reading

When There’s a Problem, Deal With It!

Yesterday we looked at the little things in marriage that can be a problem. As well as not letting them build up, there is another reason those who run marriage preparation courses advocate dealing with the little things. If you can’t talk about the little things how are you ever going to be able to talk about the big things in your marriage? Communication is something that needs to be practiced and made a habit, we not only take into our marriages but keep up once we are married. Sometimes we may think we don’t want to talk about certain … Continue reading

Problems in the Bedroom?

One thing occurs in the bedroom that can cause lots of problems for married couples. Millions of people are, or have been at some time, affected by this problem. No, I’m not talking about sex problems but snoring. Snoring can create a lot of problems in a marriage. The reality is one person snores and the other person ends up being kept awake. More often that not, the snorer is the male, but certainly not always. This results in the person who is kept awake, becoming crabby, resentful and unable to function properly during the day. It becomes a source … Continue reading

Treating Pets with Compulsive Behavior Problems

Before you can treat a compulsive behavior in your pet, you should try to figure out what’s causing it. The source of the behavior may be medical, environmental, genetic, or emotional. You may need to work with your veterinarian and/or a behavioral specialist before you can figure out the cause. Once you know the cause, you can work on reducing the compulsive behavior. Anti-anxiety medications won’t solve the problem, but they can help. Medicating your pet can help reduce the intensity of a behavior while you work on behavior modification and/or environmental changes. Yes, pets can take Prozac — and … Continue reading
