Loving and Lasting Marriage Secrets

If you’ve made it to 60 years of marriage you’d surely have to figure you must be doing something right, wouldn’t you agree? This week a local couple from the South Coast of NSW celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. When asked the secret to the long and loving marriage David and Marie cited two aspects. They are communication and consideration. Does that sound familiar? It’s one of the things I’m always advocating too. Consideration means not just all those little common courtesies that are easily, and indeed often, overlooked in a marriage. Consideration also mean considering the feelings of your … Continue reading

Ask the Right Questions In Marriage

Recently some married men and women were talking about their respective wives and husbands and a recurring problem. The problem is asking the wrong question. For example the wife might say, ‘Are you going to leave the light on all night?’ Now I don’t know about you but if someone said that to me I’d be tempted to cheekily say, ‘Yes,’ just to see the reaction. What the question should have been was, ‘I want to go to sleep. Would you turn the light off please?’ Another that one of the men raised was, ‘Who put that there?’ He went … Continue reading

Public Displays of Affection: How Much is Too Much?

Recently I began thinking about a term that I heard a lot in high school. That term was PDA. At school PDA referred to public display of affection. Teachers and coaches sometimes used this term to inform students that they were getting too cozy with their girlfriend or boyfriend. Most teen couples like to touch. They are embarrassed or ashamed to hold hands and kiss in public places. As we mature and grow older this often changes. Some couples are more affectionate than others. They feel that they display their love for one another by holding hands and touching. Other … Continue reading

What is Marriage Coming To?

We talk about marriage in the world like it’s a commodity. Marriage isn’t a gallon of milk, a bottle of wine or a brand new pair of shoes. We don’t get marriage on sale when it’s been marked down 40% and we don’t find it advertised in the newspaper. Well, maybe we do advertise it in the newspaper and maybe we do look at it like a commodity. There are a number of services available that match up individuals who are looking for marriage or a long-term relationship. Marriage Tips: Couples Don’t Have to Discuss Everything

Marriage means you shouldn’t keep secrets, right? So is not keeping secrets – telling each other absolutely everything? Not necessarily. There is a fine line between disclosure and privacy. Every couple has a subject or subjects that are considered taboo. The subjects may be taboo because they have either collectively decided to not discuss them or simply left them untouched. The simple fact is conversation and disclosures are two different things. For example, when you are dating and getting to know each other, you are very likely to share humorous anecdotes and tales of your past. You might talk about … Continue reading

Marriage in Trouble? Seek Help

We recently discussed that, although allowed, divorce is to be avoided whenever possible. Still, it is a fact of life that marriages do hit roadblocks, some big and some small. Maybe your wife spends too much money; maybe your husband spends too much time with his friends. Maybe he isn’t affectionate enough, maybe she’s too needy. Or maybe, the problems are more serious: infidelity, drug or alcohol use, mental or physical abuse. What’s a Muslim family to do? In traditional Muslim countries, the couple would sit down with the elders of the family. The husband, the wife, a representative from … Continue reading

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher to Divorce

Cougars all over the world are stunned – their shining example of what cougarhood can be has come to an end. After rumors swirled that Ashton Kutcher had cheated on wife Demi Moore, the two announced their divorce this week. The pair has almost always turned heads since they began dating in 2003, when Moore was 41-years-old and Kutcher was barely out of diapers. Okay, he was actually 25-years-old. But, Moore’s oldest daughter, Rumer is just 10 years younger than Kutcher. While not many batted an eyelash when Anthony Quinn married a women 48 years younger than him or Sammy … Continue reading
