Married at Sea: Disney Cruise Weddings

I’ve never written much about a Disney wedding, which is strange because I’m a blogger both for our Disney and our Marriage categories. But if you read my marriage blogs you know that I’m not a fan of big, fancy weddings, and a Disney wedding would certainly be that. Previous Disney bloggers have written a lot on the topic, so I didn’t have anything new to offer. Until now. I just learned that the Disney Cruise line offers wedding and vow renewal packages. I’m always up for writing about a new Disney thing I didn’t know existed, and we’ve never … Continue reading

Unexpected Difficulties with Wedding Invitations

I had a hard time choosing my wedding invitations. I suppose you could say I was a stereotypical picky bride about them, though I never got angry or chewed anyone out. I just wanted something simple, and I couldn’t find anything on the market that fit. I did have an ideal wedding invitation, and it was totally possible to make. The idea came from a close friend of mine. He said it should just be a blank white card, with the words “We’re Getting Married” alone on the front. Opening the card would reveal the simple words “You Should Come.” … Continue reading

Oh Baby, Baby!

Twins! One of the moms from my scrapbooking group recently gave birth to healthy twin girls. I finally got to meet them last week. They are much tinier than I had anticipated, but are still cute as can be. Despite being overwhelmed by the constant feedings and diaper changing, the twins’ mom is doing something I would never consider attempting three weeks post partum: She’s piecing together the twins’ first scrapbook. She received a ton of baby-themed scrapbooking supplies during her shower, but I didn’t think she would get crafting so soon after giving birth. Apparently, she doesn’t want to … Continue reading

Radical Money Idea: Spend Less Than You Earn

Imagine that it is a long, long time ago. Let’s roll the clock back to the early part of the last century. At that time, material wealth wasn’t nearly as great as it is today. There simply was not as much stuff available as there is now. Yet people did well. In fact, they saved a large portion of their income for a rainy day, anywhere from 10 to 20 percent of that income. They knew that they had to make it on their own, with perhaps a little bit of help from the community. That made this rainy day … Continue reading

Marriage During the Great Depression

Yesterday I wrote about how I’m bracing my marriage for a depression. I also admitted that I’m afraid of what’s to come…but that I’m going to face that fear head on and find a way to make all this benefit my marriage. I’m still not entirely sure how I’m going to do that, but I figured knowledge is power so my best bet is to start off arming myself with some of that. Researching the Great Depression If only my grandparents were still alive. Both sets survived the Great Depression. They could advise me how they made it, maybe give … Continue reading

Frugal Month in Review: September 2008

Now that September is come and gone and the kiddies are settled back into school and regular routines, it is time to welcome the fall. Still, there is plenty of good stuff that went on in September, including a bunch of ways to save money. September 1st Frugal Living Week in Review: August 25th Through August 31st Food and back to school are the two things on my mind this week. I e-mailed my son’s teacher ahead of time to ask about additional supplies that she might need for the classroom. She said that she usually asks parents for antibacterial … Continue reading

Choosing a Wedding Date

What made you choose your wedding date? Did that date have special meaning for you or was it a case of what was available? Does the date matter? For us, it was a date already meaningful. It was a date I already had inscribed on one ring -the friendship ring Mick gave me. Exactly two years to the date and as close as we could get it to the hour and minute that Mick put my engraved friendship ring on my right hand, he was putting my wedding ring on the left ring finger of my left hand. It was … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for July 15 – July 20

Today’s the day, as Michele asked already – Do You Have It? I do and I’ve been reading chapters in and around working, running errands and getting things done. Be sure to check the Media Reviews blog on Monday for my review of Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows. In the meanwhile, let’s talk about marriage and our marriage blog week in review. Sunday, July 15 Marrying the Incarcerated is something many women (and some men) do. But when you meet someone after they already in prison, it can make building a lasting relationship very difficult after they are out … Continue reading

How Much Did They Pay For Their Weddings?

Would you spend $1 million dollars on your wedding? What about $2 million? The average wedding runs about $30,000 dollars currently in the United States, but if you had a $1 million to spend, would you do it? According to Forbes Magazine – there are more than 20 celebrity couples that have spent a million dollars or more on their nuptials and if that’s not enough to make your jaw drop, the sad part is – most of these marriages didn’t last. Liza Minelli married producer David Gest back in 2002. Their wedding cost a whopping $3.5 million dollars and … Continue reading

Remember it is HIS day too . . .

Far too often when we talk about weddings and wedding planning, we concentrate on the bride and what she is going through. We talk about her wishes, her dreams and her plans. While a lot of grooms may espouse that whatever their bride wants is fine with them – remember, it’s HIS day too. When my husband and I got married, I thought it would be great to have a Groom’s Cake. I just loved the idea of it. I even wanted to do one right out of Steel Magnolias and have an armadillo groom’s cake. I thought it would … Continue reading
