Holiday Date Night - Celebrate with Christmas Movies

by Heather Long | More from this Blogger

Are you looking for a great way to spend a holiday date night? Last year, my mother-in-law invited our daughter over to spend the night at her house and let my husband and I have an evening to ourselves. We spent the evening wrapping up the presents and watching holiday movies together. We talked, we laughed and we even hashed out a couple of misunderstandings. There are a lot of holiday movies out there that are perfect for the holiday date night and they are great for just you and your spouse or for the whole family.

Here is a list of my personal favorites for the holidays:

  • Miracle on 34th Street - Whether you go for the classic made in 1947 or the delightful remake that came to life in 1994, the movie features the story of a bitter single mom rediscovering the magic of Christmas and new hope with her daughter and the man who wants to be a part of their family - with a little help from a man called Kris Kringle
  • It's a Wonderful Life - This is film is a true classic and while often referenced by numerous television programs throughout the years, it's never been remade and that's a tribute to the incomparable Jimmy Stewart and the discoveries his character makes about the meaning of life and Christmas as he gets the opportunity to see what the world would have been like had he never been born
  • Christmas With the Kranks - Yes it's a bit of a slapstick comedy, but the real message in the movie is about the meaning of Christmas is not found in the insane decorations or going over the top - it's about being with friends and family
  • The Bishop's Wife & The Preacher's Wife - The first film features Cary Grant as an Angel coming to earth to help reunite a couple who are drifting apart due to worldly distractions and the remake features Denzel Washington in the same role - both offer great messages of love, romance and more
  • Jingle All The Way - This movie is a hoot and really takes the extremes of retail Christmas to task as Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a dad who does everything wrong in order to keep a promise to his family and being overwhelmed by the commercialism associated with the holiday season

What is your favorite holiday film?
