The Optium Time to Have Children?

Is there an optimum time to have children? Once, people married young and had children young. These days, many couples choose to delay having children and that can cause its own problems as older mothers are more at risk of children with compilations like Downs Syndrome. The other thing is that often women are more involved with their career and are less likely to want to give it up for family. Sadly, many older women are choosing to abort because they see their career as the prime focus. Having children as soon as you are married can also be a … Continue reading

Have Married Couples Got It Wrong?

For married couples the age of having children has gone up dramatically. These days many couples are leaving it later, till their thirties before even considering having children. In the push to have it all and make sure they buy a house and get the house all set up, before having children, as many are doing, are they doing their offspring a disservice? Recent reports conducted in the USA and in Australia claim that children of older fathers have a lower IQ. And it seems that the older the father is, the lower his child will score in intelligence tests, … Continue reading

Another Reason I’m Married Without Children

A while back I wrote about some of the reasons why I’ve chosen not to have children. (See: “When Are You Going to Have Kids?” and “When Are You Going to have Kids?” – Part II.) In addition to the trip down memory lane I took when I went back to Denver recently that reminded me of all the times I’ve fallen in love with Wayne again and again, I also got a chance to really examine my roots. The who I am and who I’ve become because of where I’ve been. I realized in addition to influencing many other … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review July 23-July 26

The hot days of summer have finally arrived here in Texas, but it’s still not broiling us as temperatures remain in the 90s – instead, it’s the humidity that’s suffocating outside. A comedian once described Texas weather by saying if you go look at old Indian writings from a few hundred years ago they’d say: “Darn it’s humid in August” and I can’t imagine he was far wrong. August is just around the corner and we’re going to be looking at getting ready to go back to school and the effect that has on your marriage and your relationships because … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for Jan 20-26

Good morning, if you noticed a curious lack of the marriage blog week in review, I have to plead guilty. I wrote most of it, but yesterday, my daughter had a birthday party and we went out together to attend. It was a roller skating party and for those of you who follow my fitness blog posts, you know that my daughter and I have been roller-skating a great deal frequently, well we enjoyed ourselves roller-skating, but I was whipped after an hour and half on the skates and my legs felt like spaghetti. I’ll talk more about that in … Continue reading

Too Fat To Have A Baby

In this blog, I’ve talked about how some people feel women over 35 are too old to have a baby. But suppose you wanted to have a baby mid-life and instead of your age being the factor, your weight was. That’s exactly what happened to one mid-life mom. In the September 5, 2006 issue of The Guardian, Nichola Morris gives a sad account of her ordeal. When she was 36, she met Pete, a man 18 years older than she was. They fell in love and got married. Pete had two children from two previous failed marriages. Not wanting to … Continue reading

How Much?

Would you pay $9000 for a wedding dress? To me that is an exorbitant for a dress for one day. Yet that is not considered all that expensive by some people. I guess it depends on what is important to you. $9000 was the price a friend’s daughter found the one she wanted for recently. It was too expensive for her. She could think of many other uses for that money. In the end she had her dress made overseas, an almost exact replica for under $500. When people talked about watching the royal wedding, which I didn’t watch, the … Continue reading

They sure … Continue reading
