Going to the Chapel Month

Happy Monday! Happy May Day! Good Morning! So much is happening today and over the next two weeks that it makes my head want to spin! But here at the Marriage blog, we’re going to be pretty busy too. As I mentioned last week, May and June are really popular months for hosting weddings. May and June also play host to Mother’s and Father’s Days. So in light of both of these, we’re going to the chapel this month. We’re going to jam pack this blog with wedding planning ideas, engagement party planning, wedding flora, wedding fauna and even more … Continue reading

May Marriage Month

I wanted to take a few minutes today to talk about what you can look forward to in the month of may here at the Families.com Marriage Blog. A Brand New Ward

Since our ward got reorganized, it feels like we are in a brand new ward. Sure, I see a lot of the familiar faces of those in our previous ward, but the sheer number of people we have now compared to the tiny branch-like ward we had before makes it seem overwhelming. For one, the chapel is full now. Without an overflow room into the gym, if you are a little late to church, you may have a hard time finding a seat. This never happened in our previous ward. This past Sunday, we got there right as it was … Continue reading

The Anti-Star Studded Wedding

Call it the antithesis of Beyonce’s ultra-luxe penthouse nuptials. Location apparently doesn’t matter much to rapper Remy Ma. The Grammy-nominated artist says she won’t let a few metal bars and her bright orange jail-issued jumpsuit stop her from following through on her wedding plans. Remy Ma, whose real name is Remy Smith, had planned to marry her fiancé, fellow rapper Papoose long before she was convicted last month of assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion and sent to New York’s Rikers Island jail. The 26-year-old performer remains behind bars as she awaits her sentencing for shooting a friend she is … Continue reading

Dozed and Confused

I don’t know what’s going on, but I have to say something. Is it just me, or are more and more folks falling asleep at church? I mean, okay, I’ve heard the jokes for years across all denominations, but until recently, I don’t think I’ve seen so many folks dozing as I have in the past month or two. Let me tell you the story of the first talk I ever gave in church. I hadn’t been a member for more than nine months, maybe less than that. I had recently moved, so I didn’t know a lot of people. … Continue reading

May Day! Marriage! More!

Today is May 1st and in many parts of the world, today is known as May Day or Beltane. When you think of the name May Day you probably imagine flower baskets, flower wreath crowns, dancing a sun splashed day around a May Pole and twining the ribbons together? You are not alone imagining those things, but there is more to May Day than just that festive image that seems to come straight from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Marriage & May The month of May is filled with numerous events for couples and families all around the world. Mother’s … Continue reading

Want To Save Money At The Pump? LOSE WEIGHT!

I’ve spent a lot of time writing numerous blogs on how you can save money at the gas pump. With the holidays fast appraoching, many families are planning to drive to grandma’s house with prices for a gallon of gas far exceeding $2 in most states. So, why not look for one more way to save some cash during the busy holiday traveling period? Here’s a new one—lay off the pumpkin pie. Sound strange? It’s not, really. In fact, Univeristy of Illinois researchers spent months completing a new study that they say proves Americans are burning nearly 1 billion more … Continue reading

Getting Married on the 4th of July?

The 4th of July celebrates and honors the birth of the United States. It is the day we celebrate our freedoms as well as honoring all those in our history who have gone before us to ensure that freedom. It marks a unique day for celebrating a personal union and can make a great day to get married for the couple who embraces history or a patriotic theme. I know a number of military families that married on or around July 4 because of the deep meaning it has. Patriotism has a very personal meaning for everyone and for our … Continue reading

June Bugs

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been writing about weddings, ceremonies and more as May Marriage Month was celebrated. We’ve seen May Day come and go, Mother’s Day come and go, the end of the school year, graduations and of course, Memorial Day. May remains one of the busiest months on my personal calendar and I am ready to heave a sigh of relief as we make our journey from May into June. The month of June is as popular if not more so for wedding than the month of May. I’ve been trying to come up with some ideas … Continue reading
