Age Differences – Up Close and Personal

When Matt, the man who would become my husband, and I started dating, he was thirty-three and I was eighteen. As we grew closer, got engaged, and then married, we came to understand that age can be just a number, or it can make all the difference. Looking at the situation now through the eyes of a parent, I can honestly say that if my daughter were to come home with a man so much older than herself, I would probably call the Mafia and see if I could arrange a hit. I’ve heard of (and seen) too many situations … Continue reading

Top Twelve Marriage Articles of 2006

Can you pick the best marriage article of 2006? I’ve been writing here since the end of December of 2005 and I can’t tell you how hard this list was to compile, I chose one article from every month of this year and I still don’t think I’ve done every article here justice. So without further ado, here are my picks for the top twelve marriage articles … Continue reading

We all know that health insurance is expensive. If you knew that getting married to a much younger person could greatly reduce the cost of your health insurance, would you actually consider doing it? A small business owner, who is also a Rabbi, is giving this idea a try. There are a lot of people who cannot afford to purchase health insurance for themselves, or for their families. Businesses, especially small ones, struggle with the cost of the health insurance they offer employees. You know things are bad, economically speaking, when lawmakers are seeking solutions that will make health insurance … Continue reading

Christmas Cards, Letters, or Pictures: Which Represents You as a Couple?

Our first Christmas as a married couple, which would have been December 1995, I started the tradition of sending out Christmas cards for both Wayne and I. Back then I picked cards with funny or clever pictures, wrote a short, quick note to the recipients, and mailed them. Christmas 1999 marked the first time I attempted a Christmas letter, which I’d previously never had much respect for. Most of the ones we received painted an entirely too rosy picture of friends and family living entirely too perfect lives. We knew the letters meant well but were stretching things a bit. … Continue reading

Two Splits and an Unlikely Duo

I should have known it was coming. I had just read in Star Magazine how great a relationship Drew Barrymore had with the Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti. After all, Barrymore and Moretti had been together almost five years, which seemed like fifty in Barrymore years. Barrymore had not been known for long-term relationships, having been married first husband Jeremy Thomas for only six months and second husband Tom Green for a year. Then I went to the Movie and Television News section of the Internet Movie Database today and there is it – “Barrymore Splits with Strokes Drummer.” There is … Continue reading
