How Do You Define PDA?

Recently my volunteering friends and I discussed PDA (public displays of affection).  My two friends talked about their husbands’ discomfort with PDA.  Well, I could relate to that: it tends to make a lot of people uncomfortable.  But then I learned that what they meant by PDA was hand-holding, hugs, a quick kiss. My one friend said it took her husband years before he would hold her hand in public.  The other said that when she and her husband meet up somewhere, when her husband arrives all the other women in the room get a hug, or sometimes even a … Continue reading

Does Your Spouse Get Your Time?

One of the things couples fail to realize is that many marriage problems stem from a lack of time. You see, it takes quality time to nurture a relationship. If you are spending more time at your job or with your kids, then your marriage is bound to suffer. Now don’t get me wrong, different seasons in life require more attention than others. For instance, when my children were young they naturally required more of my time and attention. But even then, it didn’t necessarily mean my husband only deserved the leftovers. Time can’t always be measured in quantity. It … Continue reading

How Many Sets of Sheets Do You Need

Yesterday I spent the day with my friend, cleaning out her laundry room. Nancy is a self admitted hoarder but before you get a picture in your head from a TV show let me say that her home is beautiful. Nancy hoards where no one can see it and she doesn’t have any trash, everything she has is good quality, in good condition, she just has a lot of it. We started in her laundry room which made me drool. The room is about twelve feet by thirty feet and has three huge closet off of it. There was plenty … Continue reading

Could Too Much Milk Cause Colic-Like Symptoms In Your Baby?-Part I

Although I am now breastfeeding my third child, I am just now looking into oversupply, and overactive letdown as reasons for why my baby is so fussy. I have always known that I had no problem producing enough milk for my babies. My first two kids were nice, chubby babies, and I have never been able to relate to women that don’t have enough. Although, I am fully aware that this is a real problem for many Moms. But, did you know that too much milk can also be a serious problem too? I didn’t, until recently, and honestly, it … Continue reading

Don’t Be The Bad Guy

Do you use your child as a pawn in your divorce? I have tried so hard not to do that but I’m sure at times I have been guilty of it as well. We are all human and we all do things that in hindsight we realize we shouldn’t have done. I’m not talking about small slips, I’m talking about the people who do this as their main means of communicating and punishing their ex. I know many single parents, that really is a sad reflection on our society. It seems that I don’t know anyone who is in their … Continue reading

Protecting Kids: How Much is Too Much?

School’s out for the summer; can you tell? Even if you don’t have school-aged children, you can’t miss the fact that there are a ton of kids roaming the streets and hanging out at local parks these days. In fact, depending on what time of day you stroll by a public playground, you may be hard pressed to find even an inch to rest your tired tootsies. Nice weather is hard to come by in my neck of the woods. Here in the Frozen Tundra, we’re lucky if the mercury hits the 80-degree mark for 10 consecutive days during the … Continue reading

Too Fat to Fly

Did you know that there are Internet forums designed for people to rant about having to fly next to oversized passengers on commercial airliners? I was sent a link to one the other day and couldn’t believe the viral viciousness being spewed by random flyers. One poster had the gall to tear into an overweight woman he was forced to sit next to whose “blubber spilled over the armrest” and invaded his personal space. The guy then cited a recent incident in which a woman and her mom were allegedly singled out by a Southwest employee for being “too fat … Continue reading

Time Out for Women

Have you ever had the strong desire to just get an extra spiritual boost outside of your usual personal study and church meetings? Have you been longing for a girls’ weekend getaway? Well, Time Out for Women might just be your answer. A few years ago, a couple of my friends asked me if I was interested in going. This was when I lived in GA, and the closest one was going to be 4 hours away. We all thought it would be a fun chance to leave the kids behind, stay in a hotel, and make the most of … Continue reading

Do I Have Postpartum Depression?

I didn’t realize that I had postpartum depression until it was over. That’s a scary thought. But, like every first-time Mom, I kind of had the attitude that I would be so in love with my baby that there was no way that I would be depressed! No way. My situation was hard because my husband was in graduate school when we had our first baby. He was working long hours, and took the car with him to travel to his surgery rotation an hour one way. We just had one car. So, all day, Monday through Friday I was … Continue reading

When Your Husband Doesn’t Seem Excited

First of all, this is not a generalization of all men. I have known plenty of men who show a lot of excitement about their wife’s pregnancy. But I have also talked to a lot of women who expressed frustration over their husband’s seeming lack of enthusiasm over the pregnancy. They may be happy, but they are just not as excited as the woman expects them to be, which of course gets the wheels turning in her head and pretty soon she’s convinced he doesn’t really want to be a dad yet. Then the drama begins. Sometimes, there are real … Continue reading
