Couples and Christmastime Traditions

I’ve been so busy this month “doing” Christmas that whatever spirit I’ve had has been forced so far. But tonight during dinner Elf was on. As Wayne and I sat merrily cracking away on our crab legs (Publix had them on sale…Yum!), one of our little trees winked back at me, and I laughed at Will Ferrell’s antics as Buddy the Elf, I felt the real Christmas spirit finally taking hold. My stress started melting away and I realized I could suddenly breathe a little easier. There’s not much left to do except enjoy the holiday. The last big Christmas … Continue reading

Couple Time at Christmastime

With all that you have to do to get ready for Christmas or other special days, you may find yourself missing your spouse. Even though the two of you pass each other now and again, you may not have had much time lately to simply enjoy each other’s company. There is much to do on an everyday basis, with work, home, bills to pay, meals, and if you have kids, the list may seem to go on forever. Add to that your long list of holiday preparations, and it may look like you’ll never have a chance to spend a … Continue reading

Christmas Movies for Couples

As promised in my previous article, Christmas Eve Traditions for Couples, here are some Christmas movies that you might enjoy. Heather shared her favorites in Holiday Date Night – Celebrate with Christmas Movies. Do You Like Chevy Chase? ““National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” isn’t exactly a romantic holiday movie, although there are some sweet parts. If you like crazy slapstick adventure combined with some tender moments, you may enjoy this movie. Chevy Chase is married to Beverly D’Angelo and the two are very cute together, even as all their plans for a perfect Christmas turn to chaos. Is this a Couple’s … Continue reading

Christmas Eve Traditions for Couples

The first Christmas together as a couple is always special, but even if you’ve been married for a while, and have spent a few or even many holidays together, these ideas might just inspire some new traditions. Special Gift Choose a special gift for each other, something small but especially thoughtful, and set aside a few moments on Christmas Eve for just the two of you. Open your gifts and enjoy the time together. Christmas Toast Pick out a set of champagne or wine glasses together. If you can find a Christmas set, that’s even better. You can also decorate … Continue reading

The Santa Clause (1994)

Comedian Tim Allen stars in this modern Christmas classic about a man by the name of Scott Calvin who works at a toy factory. He is divorced and has a young son named Charlie, and they are scheduled to spend Christmas Eve together. However, the after-work party keeps Scott from being on time, making Charlie even more sure that Christmas is ruined. Scott can’t even put together a decent meal, and they end up eating at Denny’s. Scott tucks Charlie into bed after reading him the Christmas story, only to be awakened a short time later by a thumping on … Continue reading

Television Wasn’t Very Supportive of Marriage This Season

It’s June, which means the standard television season is over and done with. There are a few shows to look forward over the summer, but for the most part the 2006-07 television season is over and done with. Marriage wasn’t too popular or well done during this year’s television season. From reality television’s The Real Wedding Crashers to Marriage 911 to the fictional Rules of Engagement, Desperate Housewives and ’Til Death — marriage didn’t come off as a healthy or happy institution this year. There’s a reason for that – as many marketing promoters will tell you – happy marriages … Continue reading

Avoiding Awkward Holiday Moments

Have you ever had an awkward holiday moment? Maybe the kids have caught you sneaking Santa’s cookies, or maybe something worse… You’ve heard the song about Mommy kissin’ Santa Clause, right? I know a woman who got busted doing just that. She didn’t know what to say. The kids later told Dad what they saw and then it was up to him to figure out an answer. I think they are still trying to explain it… Another song that might make things a little strange is “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer!” It’s meant in good fun, but if … Continue reading

Tomorrow, we’re throwing a party for our six year old and she’s got a number of guests, young and old coming.
