Choosing a Wedding Theme

When planning a wedding, choosing theme never really entered my mind. When I think of the word "theme" I think of a type of character or well-known symbol. However the more that I thought about having a wedding theme, the more I realized that all weddings have a theme. While the theme may be more suitably considered a "mood", in essence it is still a theme.

I have been to weddings that have had a cowboy or country theme where the bridesmaids and groomsmen wore boots. I have been to a wedding with a John Deere theme where everything was decorated in green and yellow with John Deere symbols.

If you do not have your heart set on any one particular thing, it may not be easy for you to decide which type of theme is best for your wedding. Personally, I prefer more serious, quiet themes.

Depending on your personality, not all themes may match your taste. Bridal magazines are wonderful for giving ideas and helping make decisions.

While this wedding is all about you and your mate, you may also want to gather advice from your friends and family.

Location is a key part in choosing a theme. Some themes are more suitable or outside weddings while others work best indoors. The location should match the mood of the theme. For example, a very serious location such as a ballroom may not match a lighthearted cowboy wedding.

If you are not comfortable choosing a theme, think in a wider span. The theme can be as general as you would like. The theme can simply be casual or formal. Choose one and begin planning from there. Think about the atmosphere that you want to portray to your guests when they first walk into the room. This will help you get a good start on decorations.
