The Marriage Blog Week in Review for April 14-20

What a week! It’s been crazy here between what’s been going on with my nephew, illness in the house and more. But it’s also been a really interesting week here in terms of our blogs from the proposed laws in Texas to Julie Gentry’s guest blog about the husband-in-law. Did you miss a story this week? Here’s your chance to catch up on our week in review: Saturday, April 14 In Tales of Marriage: The Unexpected Compliment, I talked about the great compliment my husband paid me with regards to my skills as a parent. It’s always good to hear … Continue reading

Being Left At The Altar

Have you ever been left at the altar? I haven’t. I can’t begin to imagine how that would feel to be standing at the altar, on what is supposed to be the best day of your life and either the bride doesn’t walk down the aisle (or worse flees ala The Runaway Bride) or as the bride waiting for the groom’s arrival and he never shows. Romance Fails Being left at the altar is not romantic, it’s a failure of romance. It’s a relationship flaw. There are numerous films (the aforementioned The Runaway Bride), television shows and novels that use … Continue reading

The Gooiest Apple Awards at Disneyland

This year Disneyland’s doing something a little different for Halloween. Sure, both parks are throwing the usual parties, but this time Disneyland has a little something special for the holiday on its website. Travel over to Disneyland’s Halloween Time and see what I mean. The main focus for Halloween Time is the Disney Villains, which makes sense. The flash animation on the site rotates between each of the most popular baddies, and users can click on them to read a tidbit about the character. Then they can vote to crown their favorite with the Gooiest Apple Award. But rather than … Continue reading

Easter Freedom

My daughter and I have always been exceptionally close. I chock it up to the hours and hours she spent attached to my breast while she was an infant. And by hours I mean days. Actually, months. Okay, years. The kid nursed for the first two-and-a-half years of her life. My bosom buddy is six now and breastfeeding has been replaced with quality time doing other things together, such as reading, playing tennis, taking hikes and playing with Barbie’s urinating pups. Whereas my daughter is in full-day school this year, I still pepper our playtime with little lessons, including stranger … Continue reading

Sins of the Father—Mel Gibson Has a Meltdown

It looks as though Mel Gibson may have a conscience after all. At least part of one, anyway. And it’s beginning to bother him. A lot. The father of seven (soon to be eight) reportedly went “ballistic” in church last Sunday. In what is being described as a “crazed rant,” the actor apparently lit into parishioners while pacing back and forth on the altar of Holy Family Chapel in Agoura Hills, California. I suppose having a meltdown on the altar (a place reserved exclusively for priests and altar servers) is one of the perks of building your own (purported) Catholic … Continue reading

There Is Not Enough Time in the Day

I am convinced that ever since I started homeschooling, the days have gotten shorter. I’m positive this is occurring and as proof I homeschooled until 5pm yesterday. That meant we ate dinner at almost 6:30pm which apparently if you’re under the age of 8, is akin to virtually starving. I am positive that before I started homeschooling, I was able to keep my house clean. Completely clean. . .even the tops of the shelves were sparkly. Nary a crumb in the crevices and crannies of my floors went unnoticed. One would think that this lack of time occurred when we … Continue reading

Runaway Brides – Why Do They Flee?

I was watching The Runaway Bride this weekend, you know the movie that stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Roberts’ character attempted and fled from three separate wedding ceremonies to men she cared a great deal about. When we meet her, Roberts character is preparing to walk down the aisle for the fourth time, but in each of those relationships – she remade herself to be someone that would appeal to her partner and she wasn’t herself. Runaway Brides So why do brides run away? When Jennifer Wilbanks fled her wedding in 2005, she made up a story about being … Continue reading

Parshas Acharei Mos: Priest vs. President

This is my first blog in a long while as I was on extended vacation and had some family issues to deal with. It is certainly good to be back and blogging again, and I hope to see some familiar readers from my previous blogs as well as some new “faces.” The Chumash, or the five Books of Moses in the Hebrew Bible, is divided into weekly portions. This week’s portion is called Acharei Mos, after the death of Aaron’s sons. This is continuing a story that occurred in an earlier portion when Aaron’s sons, who were serving as priests, … Continue reading
