When Is It Emotional Cheating?

Last time I wrote about the importance of our friends, how they’re still so necessary even when we’re married.  I said that we can get some things from our friends that we can’t from our spouses.  That can be anything from goofy times, to a chance to talk about our relationship/our spouse (not bad mouth, but just to talk), to even filling some emotional needs. Now, I realize that this could be a dangerous line.  Emotional cheating is very real, and it’s not something to be taken lightly.  So today I wanted to point out the difference between having some … Continue reading

Wedding Rings and Gender Roles, Pt. 2

Last time I examined the discussion over whether or not men should have to wear wedding rings. Just about all of the arguments either for or against skipped one relevant consideration: whether or not women should have to or even enjoy wearing them. Only one article I found briefly acknowledged the idea: the author said that neither of her parents has worn a wedding ring for decades, for a variety of reasons. That’s all we’ve got: in the wedding rings debate we have in-depth considerations of male class traditions, shifting perspectives of masculinity, and a man’s role in a marriage, … Continue reading

Anti-Cheating Ring

The wedding ring is a symbol of holy matrimony. It is when a couple makes a vow before God and others that they will be together until death departs them. But it also puts others on notice. It says, “I am taken.” So when someone doesn’t necessarily want others to know they are married, what do they do? They take the ring off. Let’s face it…this is something men are mostly accused of. So what is a woman to do? How about purchasing an “anti-cheating ring”? Thecheeky.com has come up with a $550 ring that comes with a “lifetime guarantee.” … Continue reading

Cheating Made Easy

Cheating on your marriage partner has never been easier. The internet is making it easier for couples to hook up with others who are looking for affairs. A relatively new website makes it even easier for the average person to make connections with those looking to go outside the boundaries of marriage. According to an article in Time magazine ,679,000 people have used the cheater’s internet site. Of these users 92% of males are married while 60% of females who use the site are married. In the last year membership of the site has doubled to 4 million. These are … Continue reading

Ten Signs that Your Spouse may be Cheating

So you think your spouse might be cheating on you? The very fact that you are suspicious is a good indication that something sinister may be going on. That’s because we all have intuition. Whether you call it a “sixth sense,” “warning bells,” or “red flags,” trust that inner voice. Unless you are generally a suspicious person and have a history of being overly possessive and accusing, your fears are probably justified. I have personal experience with this, which explains this guest-blog. The multiple infidelities in my first marriage turned me into a housewife-by-day, detective-by-night. I got really good at … Continue reading

Opposite Sex Friendships: Playing with Fire

I’ll warn you ahead of time.  You may not agree with anything I have to say in this blog.  In fact, you might think I’m living in the dark ages…but that’s okay. The issue I’m talking about today is friendships with the opposite sex.  But please understand ahead of time that I am coming at this from the angle of seeing the destruction it almost cost my marriage and the fact I have been married for 21 ½ years. My opinion is that having a friendship with someone of the opposite sex is playing with fire.  Think about how many … Continue reading

Lifestyle Prenup Agreements

If you want to financially protect yourself after getting married, you may decide that a prenuptial agreement is the way to go. I’m not here to say one way or another whether this is something you should or shouldn’t do. Each couple has to make this decision based on their unique circumstances. But I do have a bit of a problem with non-financial prenups. These are the ones based on surface issues, ones that really don’t have a place in a committed marriage. I recently heard a story about a man who wanted his future wife to sign a prenuptial … Continue reading

Wisdom from Week Two of the Atkins Diet

In the second week of the Atkins diet, I learned a great many things. No matter how prepared and informed you might be before beginning this diet, you will still end up learning something new about how to make Atkins work for you. The wisdom I have gained this week might be helpful for people who have just stated trying to navigate their way through this diet. If you are using the Atkins website to keep track of your carbs and weight, you have the option of entering your weight each and every day. Personally, I prefer to check my … Continue reading

Shooting the State Fair

The Wisconsin State Fair is a big deal in my neck of the woods. Actually, it’s even bigger in the rural parts of the state where kids go hog wild raising pigs and other livestock to showcase at the big event. In a few short months, those cattle, pigs, sheep, and horses will get another chance to shine when my freelance photographer friend snaps their best sides to show off in auction brochures, State Fair pamphlets and various ads. He will then try to sell the photos to feature in calendars, on posters or on his website. Regardless of how … Continue reading

Inside the Disney Limbo

After previewing “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” last week, I began wondering about the status of many other upcoming Disney films. While researching the movies Disney’s got on its production line, I discovered many promising titles (and some not so promising) that are currently in a state of limbo. A number of interesting projects are in various stages of halted production over at Disney right now. For today’s blog I thought I’d highlight some of these projects. “Enchanted 2” – All right, I’m cheating some here. The House of Mouse just announced that they plan to make a … Continue reading
